  • Patent number: 8529700
Abstract: A vapor deposition apparatus includes an insert within which a material is deposited on the surface of a film. A cassette includes end plates each having a rib that edgewise receive a spiral wrapping of a film at least 300 mm wide. Spaces between turns of the wrapping define a gas flow channel and spaces between adjacent turns of one rib define inlet openings that communicate with the channel. Each rib has a predetermined width dimension, a predetermined average thickness dimension, and a width-to-thickness aspect ratio of at least 2:1. The spacing between end plates is at least 300 mm and is also greater than the film width at deposition temperature. The width dimension of each rib is between about 0.5% to about 2.0% of the end plate spacing. A diverging flow director contacts one end plate to directing gaseous fluid toward the inlet openings in that end plate.

  • Patent number: 8524003
Abstract: A cassette for supporting a film during a gaseous vapor deposition has first and second end plates. A rib on each end plate forms a spiral groove that edgewise receives a spiral wrapping of a film having a width greater than 300 mm. Spaces between turns of the film wrapping define a gas flow channel and spaces between adjacent turns of the rib define a plurality of inlet openings in one end plate that communicate with the channel. Each rib has a predetermined width dimension, a predetermined average thickness dimension, and a width-to-thickness aspect ratio of at least 2:1. The spacing between end plates is at least three hundred millimeters (300 mm) and is also greater than the width dimension of a film substrate at a gaseous deposition temperature. The width dimension of each rib is between about 0.5% to about 2.0% of the end plate spacing.

  • Patent number: 8489939
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to dynamically allocating multitier applications based upon performance and reliability of resources. A controller analyzes resources and applications hosted by the resources, and collects operational data relating to the applications and resources. The controller is configured to determine an allocation scheme for allocating or reallocating the applications upon failure of a resource and/or upon rollout or distribution of a new application. The controller generates configuration data that describes steps for implementing the allocation scheme. The resources are monitored, in some embodiments, by monitoring devices. The monitoring devices collect and report the operational information and generate alarms if resources fail.

  • Patent number: 8478532
Abstract: Fluid tests may be performed to determine suitability of an additive for a production enhancement treatment. In one aspect, a measuring device is used to determine a result of adding a sample of solid material to a test fluid that includes an additive. The result may include, for example, a change in surface tension, a change in contact angle, and/or another result. The measured result is used to determine the suitability of the additive for use in a stimulation treatment for a subterranean formation. For example, the additive may be determined suitable for use during a pad phase of a fracture treatment, during a proppant-laden phase of a fracture treatment, and/or for other phases and/or types of stimulation treatments.

  • Publication number: 20130087235
Abstract: An apparatus and method for thawing frozen lines. Water is heated and supplied under pressure to the inside of a frozen line such as a frozen plastic or metal pipe. In one non-limiting embodiment the invention comprises an air compressor, a plurality of tanks, a water heater element located in one tank, and a reel of flexible tubing. In a preferred embodiment the complete kit is mounted on a carrying device, which can be maneuvered manually through standard size doorways. In one embodiment a water delivery nozzle made of heat conducting metal is fitted to one end of the tubing. The compressor can be an electrically powered air compressor thus allowing the invention to be used inside buildings. In another embodiment deicing agent is directed into a frozen pipe in controlled pulses to further aid thawing of frozen lines.

  • Publication number: 20130026678
Abstract: Systems and processes that limit distortion of inserts (e.g., previously formed parts) in insert molding and overmolding processes. Initially, a mold may be closed (e.g., clamped) about an insert with the mold at a first temperature. After closing the mold about the insert, the mold is heated up to a second temperature (e.g., a temperature suitable for injection of the molding material) and filled with the molding material to contact (e.g., encapsulate) the insert. After the mold has been cooled, the mold may be opened and the finished part (including the insert and the solidified molding material) removed (e.g., ejected). The process may be repeated for additional finished parts. Closing the mold about the insert before heating the mold to the injection temperature advantageously limits distortion of the insert that would otherwise occur by placing the insert into the mold with the mold already at the injection temperature.
