  • Patent number: 8649484
Abstract: Apparatus, methods and articles of manufacture to predict vectored digital subscriber line (DSL) performance gains are disclosed. A disclosed example method includes determining a model coefficient of a noise-to-margin ratio (NMR) model from performance data measured for a DSL subscriber loop prior to provisioning of vectoring for the DSL subscriber loop, computing, using the model coefficient, a first NMR value with disturbers enabled and a second NMR value with disturbers disabled, and estimating an expected vectoring performance gain for the DSL subscriber loop based on the first and second NMR values.

  • Patent number: 8644169
Abstract: A data analyzer operative to be located at a customer premises, causes the transmission of a probing signal into at least one telephone line. The data analyzer computes a parameter that represents a characteristic of at least one telephone line based upon at least a measured reflected probing signal.

  • Patent number: 7903790
Abstract: A system and method for imputing data into a database includes an imputing system operable to impute data based on outside plant construction principles. The imputing system includes an inventory database, a data engine, a search engine, and a loop engine. The inventory database includes a plurality of distribution records each associated with one or more cable pairs. The data engine determines if a desired distribution record corresponding to a desired cable pair includes missing data. The search engine searches a known class of serving terminals for complete distribution records and iteratively searches a sized binder group within the inventory database for one or more complete distribution records where the size of the binder group searched increases with each iterative search. The loop engine determines an imputed value for the desired distribution record based on the searching and imputes the value into the desired distribution record.

  • Patent number: 7606145
Abstract: A dual-mode broadband modem operative to operate in a service mode and a surveillance mode is disclosed. Generally, the dual-mode broadband modem comprises a primary communication device; a secondary communication device; a central processing unit in communication with the primary and secondary communication devices; and a memory unit in communication with the central processing unit. In the service mode, the primary communication device communicates with a broadband service provider and the central processing unit stores historical information regarding performance of the primary communication device in the memory unit. If an interruption in broadband service is detected, or the performance of the primary communication device falls below a predetermined threshold, the dual-mode broadband modem switches to surveillance mode and the secondary communication device is activated.

  • Publication number: 20080292064
Abstract: Methods and apparatus to characterize a digital subscriber line (DSL) subscriber loop are disclosed. An example method comprises selecting a portion of a search space based on a measured transfer function response, the search space defining a plurality of combinations of transmission line parameters, and identifying a characterizing parameter of a digital subscriber line (DSL) subscriber loop from the selected portion of the search space, the characterizing parameter having an associated transfer function that substantially corresponds with the measured transfer function response.

  • Patent number: 7388906
Abstract: In a particular embodiment a method of collecting and processing modem data is provided. The method includes, during training of a broadband modem, sending a series of tones within a frequency transmission band of the broadband modem, receiving the transmitted series of tones at a receiving broadband modem, receiving a measurement value, determining a transmission loss for each of the series of tones by comparing the predetermined transmission power level, and the received measured power level, performing a statistical match comparison between each of the received tone signals and a plurality of different computer models of a single transmission facility having various bridge taps connected to the single transmission facility, and determining a best fit between each of the received tone signals and one of the plurality of the bridge tap computer models. The series of tones have a predetermined transmission power level.
