    Abstract: Prophylactic or therapeutic treatment to inhibit the development or progress of multiple sclerosis symptoms is provided by providing intermittently administered elevated doses of calcitriol, sufficiently infrequently to avoid hypercalcemia. Such methods may include maintaining at least about a normal blood level of vitamin D3 as evidenced by a 25-(OH)D3 level of at least about 50 nmol/L.
