Patent number: 11542981Abstract: The assembly includes a housing that has an inner bore and a ball stud that has a ball portion with opposing first and second hemispheres. A bearing assembly is disposed in the inner bore of the housing and presents a curved first bearing surface that is in slidable contact with only the first hemisphere of the ball portion. The ball socket assembly also includes a curved second bearing surface that is presented on a different component from the bearing assembly and is in slidable contact with the second hemisphere of the ball portion. The bearing assembly has a plastic portion and a plurality of metal segments. The metal segments collectively define the first bearing surface and are fixedly attached with the plastic portion. The plastic portion allows the metal segments to individually move relative to one another to seat against the ball portion of the ball stud.Type: GrantFiled: March 8, 2019Date of Patent: January 3, 2023Assignee: Federal-Mogul Motorparts LLCInventor: Donald Richard Doherty

Patent number: 10711830Abstract: The socket assembly includes a housing that presents an inner wall which surrounds an open bore. A stud is partially received in the open bore with a bearing interposed between the inner wall and the stud. The bearing has a bearing piece, which is in surface-to-surface contact with the stud, and a preload piece which is elastically compressed to impart a biasing force on the bearing piece, thereby preloading the bearing piece against the stud. The preload piece is in an overmolded engagement with the bearing piece to securely couple these pieces together such that the bearing can be inserted into the open bore of the housing together as a unit. The bearing and preload pieces are made of different materials with different elasticities.Type: GrantFiled: March 1, 2017Date of Patent: July 14, 2020Assignee: Federal-Mogul Motorparts LLCInventors: Seth Wayne Englebright, Donald Richard Doherty

Patent number: 10578152Abstract: The movable joint assembly includes a housing which extends along an axis and has an outer surface and an open interior. A ball stud is partially disposed in the open interior and projects out of the housing. A flexible and elastic boot is sealed against the outer surface of the housing and against the ball stud. A metal insert is at least partially embedded within the boot adjacent an end of the boot for resisting pull out of the boot from the housing. The boot includes a lip which is at least partially spaced axially from the insert and extends radially inwardly and is in an interference fit engagement with the outer surface of the housing for establishing a fluid tight seal of the housing and for maintaining the fluid tight seal in response to injection of a lubricant into the open interior of the housing.Type: GrantFiled: October 16, 2017Date of Patent: March 3, 2020Assignee: Federal-Mogul Motorparts LLCInventors: Eric Kopsie, Donald Richard Doherty

Patent number: 8023653Abstract: A modified media key used to decrypt protected media content stored on an optical disc, such as an HD-DVD or Blu-ray disc, is created through application of a transformation using a constant value which is programmatically generated by procedural code that runs on a player. The transformation is obfuscated through application of a random value to the constant value through a logical XOR operation. The programmatically-generated constant, called Soft Key Conversion Data (“SKCD”) is used by a security layer to derive the modified media key, called a Soft Media Key. At the player, a conventionally calculated media key is used to decrypt the first title, while the Soft Media Key is used to decrypt subsequent titles. Optionally, the SKCD may be updated one or more times so that the Soft Media Key is repeatedly transformed and respectively applied, for example, on a title-by-title basis, or to groups of subsequent titles.Type: GrantFiled: October 9, 2007Date of Patent: September 20, 2011Assignee: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Richard Doherty, Robert Hughes

Publication number: 20100328093Abstract: Certain embodiments of the present invention are directed to a system for providing a layered map illustrating information associated with an emergency event location during an emergency event. The information can include pre-planning data, map data, and current data. The layered map can be accessed by emergency responders using user devices and administrators or other command center personnel. The information can be used to better respond and manage a response to an emergency event.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 28, 2008Publication date: December 30, 2010Inventors: Aaron Thomas Robinson, John Richard Doherty, Albert Koenigsberg, Orval F. Hart
