    Abstract: A supercharger for an internal combustion engine includes a housing in which an impeller rotates to pressurize the intake manifold of the engine. The impeller is connected to the crankshaft of the engine through a magnetic clutch which enables the impeller to remain at rest or to rotate at a speed that is independent of the speed of the crankshaft and is under control of an engine management system or the operator of the engine.
