  • Publication number: 20030172270
Abstract: A method and system are directed towards enabling content security in a distributed environment. The system includes a data store for content associated with an application that may be tagged as exclusively memory resident at a client. The content may also be encrypted and digitally signed. When an authenticated client requests the content, it is provided at a constrained rate that enables a portion of the content to start execution on the client before the application associated with the content is completely downloaded. Additional portions of the content are provided to the client when the additional portions are required for execution by the application.

  • Publication number: 20030127529
Abstract: The need to maintain the quality of air in a home has become more of a problem in new high efficiency tight houses so that governmental regulations are being proposed for a minimum change of fresh air. If too much cold outside fresh air is introduced into such homes at a single source, the room with the fresh air is usually too cold and/or unbalanced.

  • Publication number: 20030098358
Abstract: A heat exchange system and method for heating outside air provided to a structure are disclosed. The system uses and recovers heat from waste products that are being exhausted from the structure. A heated products source generates heated waste products as a result of combustion. An exhaust duct passes the heated waste products through a heat exchanger before exhaustion from the structure. An intake duct that supplies fresh outside air to the structure also passes through the heat exchanger. The heat exchanger couples the exhaust duct and the intake duct and transfers otherwise unused heat from the waste products to the outside air to increase the overall efficiency of the heated product source.

  • Patent number: 6543698
Abstract: The need to maintain the quality of air in a home has become more of a problem in new high efficiency tight houses so that governmental regulations are being proposed for a minimum change of fresh air. If too much cold outside fresh air is introduced into such homes at a single source, the room with the fresh air is usually too cold and/or unbalanced. The present invention avoids cooling any one room while maintaining heat efficiency. When the home has a gas fireplace, the exhaust gases are preferably directed through an air-to-air cross flow heat exchanger which preheats the quality air passing into a forced air furnace system. In modified embodiments of the present invention, make-up quality air is mixed with the room air and heated in the heat exchanger of the fireplace. The preheated room air from the fireplace is preferably connected to the supply/return of a forced air furnace system and distributed to all rooms to provide uniform heating.

  • Publication number: 20020194189
Abstract: Methods, systems, data structures and articles of manufacture are provided for maintaining a list/tally of columns that are modified by an I/O operation. The list allows for determining which triggers, both row and column oriented, should be activated upon the operation. In addition, a tracking mechanism is provided to track modifications to additional columns that occur because of the triggers being executed.

  • Publication number: 20020184207
Abstract: Methods, systems and articles of manufacture are provided for setting a state of triggers between operative and inoperative. In an operative state the trigger may be called during triggering I/O operations such as Insert, Update and Delete. The inoperative state indicates that the system has detected a condition requiring user intervention. In a particular embodiment, a database management system (DBMS) will analyze the function being performed on a table (such as a rename of the table) and with dependent object data, the DBMS will determine if the trigger is self-referencing. If so, the trigger made inoperative. Making the trigger inoperative and requiring user intervention prevents the system from potentially producing undesired results.

  • Patent number: 6484827
Abstract: A vehicle such as a front engine tractor is adapted to utilize conventional steering and propel controls with a drive and steer type transmission. The transmission permits the vehicle to be driven and steered through its rear wheels, thereby permitting it to turn about one wheel and/or about an axis between its wheels. A substantial portion of the engine weight is carried on the vehicle frame forwardly of the transmission. Front castered wheels enable the vehicle to be easily steered by the drive wheels. A conventional type steering wheel is provided with a mechanical linkage extending between it and the transmission. Conventional type controls are also provided to propel or power the vehicle in a forward or rearward direction and within a range of speeds.

  • Publication number: 20020174129
Abstract: Methods, systems, data structures and articles of manufacture are provided for monitoring access to a database. In one embodiment, a data access trigger, or read trigger, is adapted to monitor accesses to a database. In general, a data access trigger is invoked when predefined events occur. Specifically, a data access trigger is executed to take some action due to any attempt to access a database. When a specified access attempt is determined, the trigger can instruct the system to take any number of actions, such as modify the data being requested.

  • Publication number: 20020150260
Abstract: A noise attenuation system (10) for an air induction system (12) includes an air inlet duct (16) having an open end (18) to draw in air and a loudspeaker (22) mounted within the inlet duct (16) and facing the open end (18) of the inlet duct (16). The air horn (24) is connected to the loudspeaker (22) to tune the sound output and increase the sound power from the loudspeaker (22) to optimize cancellation of noise generated by the air induction system (16) at lower frequencies. An open end (18) of the air horn (24) is positioned within a plane defined by the open end (18) of the air inlet duct (16). A microphone (26) is positioned near the air inlet duct (16) and is in communication with a controller (28). The controller (28) generates an input to the loudspeaker (22). The input to the loudspeaker (22) is out of phase with the noise detected by the microphones (26) to cancel a portion of noise emitted from the open end (18) of the air inlet (16).

  • Publication number: 20020066862
Abstract: Ions produced by radioactive gases present in air impact on the sensitivity of contamination measuring instruments which detect ions generated by radioactive materials present on an item. Methods and apparatus address this issue by conducting a measurement of ions generated in a chamber by gaseous emitters and other background events in a volume of medium and deducting this from a measurement of ions generated in another chamber by the item as well as the gaseous emitters and background events. The variation of the gaseous emitters present within the medium is addressed by moving the medium about. An alternative solution uses a medium free of gaseous emitters having a significant level, for instance by sealed storage of air prior to its use in a method and instrument.

  • Patent number: 6354388
Abstract: A vehicle such as a lawn and garden tractor is adapted to utilize conventional steering and propel controls with a drive and steer type transmission. The transmission permits the vehicle to be driven and steered through its rear drive wheels, thereby permitting it to turn about one wheel and/or about an axis between its wheels. Front castered wheels enable the vehicle to easily steered by the drive wheels. A conventional type steering wheel is provided with a mechanical linkage extending between it and the transmission. Conventional type controls are also provided to propel or power the vehicle in a forward or rearward direction and within a range of speeds. With conventional type steering and propel controls adapted to be utilized with the drive and steer type transmission, operation of spin-turn vehicles is made simple and more efficient as well as reducing the time required to learn to operate and maneuver the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 6196342
Abstract: A steering mechanism that controls a drive and steer transmission and that causes the transmission to execute turns in the direction a steering wheel is turned when operating in either the forward or reverse direction of travel. In response to operator engagement of a drive control, an actuation linkage shifts an elongate member within a slot formed in a cam member that pivots in response to turning of a steering wheel. Shifting of the rod member between two positions on either side of the cam member pivot axis causes the drive and steer transmission to steer the vehicle in the desired direction when the vehicle is traveling in both forward and reverse.
