  • Patent number: 4637496
Abstract: A rail system for elevators includes a plurality of omega-shaped rail sections. Adjacent sections are spliced together by a common tube, projecting into the adjoining hollow sections of rail, which is secured by clamps. The rails are mounted to a building structure by brackets that have a circular portion, engaging the interior space of the rail sections, and projecting portion that can be mounted to the building structure.

  • Patent number: 4566561
Abstract: An elevator system has a selector mechanism driven by a cable loop attached to the elevator car. The opposite cable ends are wound on a take-up drum, in opposite rotational directions, in sequential rows across the drum, such that the cable leads travel back and forth across the drum as the drum rotates. A selector cable guide includes a frame pivotable about an axis generally perpendicular to the drum axis. The frame is disposed about the drum, and has a pair of pulleys mounted adjacent to the pivot axis, and a second pair of pulleys mounted to the frame on the opposite side of the drum. Each cable portion is guided about one of the first pulleys, thereafter about one of the second pulleys, and is thereafter wrapped onto the drum. The second pulleys swing laterally to follow the position of the cable leads as they travel across the drum, whereas the first pulleys remain relatively stationary for directing the cable portions up and down the elevator shaft from a relatively constant position.

  • Patent number: 4399685
Abstract: A device for measuring both force and kinetic energy includes a first cylindrical tube with one end closed, which tube is positioned over a calibrated spring that has one of its ends adjacent the closed end of the first tube. The other end of the spring extends beyond the open end of the first tube and is received within a second cylindrical tube mounted to slide over the first tube and having one closed end adjacent the other end of the spring. For measuring kinetic energy an indicator member is positioned about the first tube in such a manner that it is displaceable by contact with the open end of the second tube during compression of the spring and remains on the first tube at the point of maximum displacement when the compression of the spring is relieved. The position of the indicator with respect to the first tube is a measure of the kinetic energy that compressed the spring and the position of the second tube with respect to the first tube is a measure of that static compression force on the spring.

  • Patent number: 4201053
Abstract: A telescoping hydraulic cylinder apparatus for elevator application, wherein telescoping cylinders and a piston rod extend or retract simultaneously, having a compensator pump for automatically replenishing fluid lost due to leakage from the upper cylinders of the apparatus.

  • Patent number: 3968860
Abstract: An hydraulic jack for an elevator installation comprises a pair of cylinders and a common plunger. One cylinder is fixedly mounted in a vertical position in a hoistway; while one end of the plunger is mounted within the fixed cylinder for vertical reciprocating movement therein. The other cylinder, which carries an elevator cab up and down in the hoistway, is slidably mounted about the other end of the plunger for vertical reciprocating movement thereon.

  • Patent number: 3954157
Abstract: An hydraulic elevator installation for vertically transporting an elevator cab up and down in a hoistway comprises a piston fixedly mounted in a vertical position in the hoistway and a lifting frame for carrying the elevator cab. The lifting frame includes a cylinder forming a vertical support member of the lifting frame and slidably mounted about the piston for vertical reciprocating movement thereon.

  • Patent number: 3948358
Abstract: An elevator rail mounting system for positioning a pair of elevator guide rails, capable of centering an elevator cab therebetween, in a hoistway comprises a U-shaped bracket, mountable in the hoistway an adjustable distance from the entrance side thereof, for fixing the angular relationships of and distances between the guide rails, a landing sill and a hall door frame to insure a constant running clearance between the elevator cab and the landing sill and to maintain the proper alignment of the elevator cab and the hall door frame. The U-shaped bracket includes a horizontally and vertically adjustable cross member mounted from the entrance side of the hoistway substantially adjacent and parallel thereto.
