Patent number: 11293409Abstract: A wind turbine power generating system, including a wind turbine connected to a speed-increasing gearbox having an output shaft. An electrical generator having an input shaft is also provided. A coupling interconnects the input and output shafts. The coupling includes a high torsional wind-up and/or displacement ability in parallel with a high frictional slip ability, such that during normal operation there is little or no frictional slippage and during a transient torque reversal the loads in the turbine drive system are decreased, thus decreasing the impact loads on the gearbox bearings.Type: GrantFiled: August 22, 2019Date of Patent: April 5, 2022Assignee: PT Tech, LLCInventors: David C. Heidenreich, Richard E. Cole, Jr., Dustin J. Sadler

Patent number: 10240643Abstract: A self-contained clutch for diesel engines for off-highway implementation is provided. A stationary friction disc, pressure plate and endplate sandwich a pair of rotating separator discs. Attenuation of vibration damping of the rotator discs may be achieved by a centrifugal weight. A pulse-width-modulated DC motor or valve is employed in association with a hydraulic actuator to control pressure to the clutch piston. An RFID tag uniquely identifies the nature and parameters of the clutch itself and is associated with the clutch such that the controller can most efficiently operate the clutch. Heat is dissipated by an oil pump servicing the support bearings and/or by the integration of a centrifugal fan into the heat disc stack.Type: GrantFiled: December 10, 2015Date of Patent: March 26, 2019Assignee: PT TECH, LLCInventors: Timothy A. Clapp, Richard E. Cole, David A. Farwell, Tyler A. Naumoff, David J. Morris

Patent number: 10240648Abstract: An electromagnetic-released, multi-disc, enclosed safety brake for primary use in offshore marine winch applications includes a stationary coil housing that encompasses springs that apply pressure to an armature, a pair of separator plates, three friction plates and a stationary endplate. The multi-disc brake is released by means of a DC voltage applied to the brake coil. The excited coil generates an electromagnetic force that attracts the armature across an air-gap thus reducing the spring force applied to the disc pack. The brake is applied when the DC voltage is removed from the brake coil. Various structures and methodologies for reducing vibrations in the brake are also provided.Type: GrantFiled: January 28, 2016Date of Patent: March 26, 2019Assignee: PT TECH, LLCInventors: Richard E. Cole, Jr., Timothy A. Clapp, David A. Farwell

Patent number: 9097239Abstract: An asymmetric torque limiting coupling system for use on wind turbines, in which a forward torque limiting clutch and a reverse torque limiting clutch are provided in paired relation, with the reverse torque limiting clutch having a characteristic slip torque that is significantly less than that of the forward torque limiting clutch. In a specific embodiment disclosed, an asymmetric torque limiter interconnects a wind turbine with a generator shaft. The coupling includes an input housing and an output hub, with an overrunning mechanism interposed between the two. A first torque limiting mechanism is provided in series interconnection with the overrunning mechanism between the input housing and hub, while a second torque limiting mechanism is provided in parallel interconnection with the overrunning mechanism between the input housing and output hub.Type: GrantFiled: April 24, 2012Date of Patent: August 4, 2015Assignee: EBO Group, Inc.Inventors: David C. Heidenreich, Richard E. Cole, Jr.

Patent number: 8715092Abstract: A compact disc spring torque limiting clutch has an input hub and an output hub having a friction pack that is removable from the input hub as an entire unit to facilitate servicing and repair. The force actuator of the torque limiting clutch is a Belleville spring or machined disc spring that is operatively interposed between the input hub and the friction pack. The deflection of the Belleville spring during the useful life of the friction pack is within the flat portion of the force vs. deflection curve and establishes a characteristic breakaway torque for the torque limiting clutch. The use of a Belleville spring significantly reduces the axial dimension of the torque limiting clutch, adapting it for use in applications where space is at a premium.Type: GrantFiled: November 20, 2009Date of Patent: May 6, 2014Assignee: EBO Group, Inc.Inventors: David C. Heidenreich, Richard E. Cole, Jr.

Patent number: 8418786Abstract: A selectively powered ambulatory stretcher chair has a bifurcated articulating base of free-wheeling casters at each of the corners thereof, with motor driven wheels on a transaxle interposed therebetween. Articulation of the bifurcated base causes deployment and retraction of the drive wheels to allow use of the stretcher chair in both a manual and power-driven mode, while ensuring stability in both. A u-shaped positionable bar is pivotally connected to a back of the stretcher chair and maintains a control box within a tight range of positions as the chair of the stretcher chair assembly translates between upright and horizontal positions. The back of the stretcher chair is of a radiolucent material, accommodating medical procedures in the stretcher chair in a broad range of positions.Type: GrantFiled: May 6, 2010Date of Patent: April 16, 2013Assignee: TransMotion Medical, Inc.Inventors: Timothy A. Clapp, Richard E. Cole, Jr., Zackary D. McKee, Robert E. Herchick, Michael E. Maske

Patent number: 4152374Abstract: A container of water is subject to reduced air pressure to induce an inflow of air through conduits extending from the exterior of the container to a point below the level of the water in the container. Air entering through these conduits bubbles up through the water. The size of the bubbles is controlled by the ports at which the air moving in the conduits enters the water. The blower providing the reduced pressure delivers the moisture-ladened air from the bubbles to the intake of another blower providing combustion air for a burner installation. The minute quantities of vapor-ladened air are mixed in that blower, or in the blower intake chamber, with the remainder of the incoming combustion air. The supply of vapor is related to the firing rate in the burner by associating the burner control with the off-on condition of a valve in at least one of a plurality of air conduits of the container.Type: GrantFiled: April 22, 1977Date of Patent: May 1, 1979Inventors: Lyman P. Wenger, Richard E. Cole
