  • Patent number: 4917202
Abstract: Fast moving off-highway vehicles, such as trucks, may have restricted operating capability in rainy, wet weather because of foreign material, such as water, being ingested into their exposed air cleaner and thus their engines. To operate in these conditions it is desirable that their air cleaner be adapted to include an air inlet deflector assembly. The deflector assembly includes a plurality of formed shields and a splash deflector. The shields overlap the inlet ports and in combination with the splash deflector define a labyrinth path for air entering the air cleaner. The splash deflector includes downwardly inclined blocking edges to block and redirect material away from the inlet passages.

  • Patent number: 4004665
Abstract: A transmission and parking brake control system for a vehicle is disclosed including a brake for inhibiting movement of the rotary drive train thereof, a transmission shiftable between neutral and a plurality of speed range drive conditions for operation of the vehicle, a transmission control arrangement operatively connected to the transmission for selectively establishing the neutral and the drive conditions including a lever assembly shiftable substantially in a plane for selecting the drive conditions and shiftable normal to the plane at the neutral condition into a parking condition, and a brake arrangement operatively connected to the brake for engagement and disengagement thereof, the brake arrangement including an actuator which is responsive to movement of the lever assembly into the parking condition for affecting remote engagement of the brake without mechanical interconnecting linkage or the like.

  • Patent number: 3977489
Abstract: A framework is provided for a relatively large off-highway truck which has front wheels supported by independent suspension struts positioned on opposite sides of the engine. The framework includes a pair of longitudinally disposed, laterally spaced main side rails and a superstructure which provides an upper, transverse bridgework interconnecting the side rails to add transverse rigidity in a manner which does not obstruct overhead accessibility to the engine. The superstructure also provides radial support for the upper ends of the struts to minimize twisting of the main side rails by moment loads created by the wheels. The superstructure further supports a roll-over protective structure for the operator cab of the truck in a manner which minimizes the transmission of severe impact loads in the event of rollover to the main frame.

  • Patent number: 3967709
Abstract: The invention comprises a transmission control console attachable to a vehicle. The console includes an enclosure with a gear shift regulator extending therefrom, the regulator serving to control the transmission of the vehicle. Generally, the regulator will have forward, reverse, and neutral settings. Also a part of the console is a parking brake actuator adjacent the enclosure, the actuator serving to control a parking brake of the vehicle. Means are provided responsive to movement of the actuator to cause engagement of the parking brake for interlocking the actuator to the regulator only when the regulator is in its neutral setting, whereby shifting out of the neutral setting is prevented when the actuator and the regulator are interlocked, and engagement of the brake is prevented when the regulator is not in the neutral setting.

  • Patent number: 3966254
Abstract: A control structure for neutralizing the transmission of a dump truck when the console switch is in a "reverse" position to prevent the truck operator from inadvertently backing the truck in the event the transmission control is in the "reverse" position at the time the operator accelerates the truck engine to operate the hoist cylinder of the dump body. A conventional dump truck hydraulic transmission system is utilized with the control for the hoisting mechanism being electrically related thereto.

  • Patent number: 3954150
Abstract: A roll protective structure is provided in which a roof panel and floor panel are detachably mounted thereto. The mounting means are such that structural rigidity is maintained while insuring that there is no metal-to-metal contact between the respective panels and cab structure. The respective panels also provide for sound insulation.

  • Patent number: 3946826
Abstract: A vehicle dash assembly is provided with pivoting mount means which allows for greater accessibility to the dash mounted instrument and associated control members. A latching mechanism permits the dash assembly to be supported in the open position for servicing operations.

  • Patent number: 3940931
Abstract: An emergency hydraulic system for use in a vehicle having an engine which not only powers the vehicle but also drives a main hydraulic pump to supply hydraulic fluid under pressure to a hydraulic control means is disclosed. The emergency hydraulic system includes an auxiliary hydraulic pump driven by an electric motor to provide an auxiliary source of hydraulic fluid under pressure to the hydraulic control means under emergency conditions. An electrical control circuit for the electric motor is described which control circuit will automatically activate the electric motor whenever the engine is operating normally but the flow of hydraulic fluid from the main hydraulic pump falls below a given level and will automatically inactivate the electric motor whenever the engine is operating normally and the flow of hydraulic fluid from the main hydraulic pump is above a given level.
