  • Patent number: 5894994
Abstract: A slot coating die (10) is provided, comprising an upper die half (12) and a lower die half (14) attached together with a shim (16) disposed therebetween, each die half extending along an axis (18) and having a front and a back. The front of the upper die half includes a movable lip insert (22) extending substantially the entire width thereof and movable with respect to the upper die half toward and away from the front of the upper die half in a direction generally perpendicular to the axis. At least one adjustable die opening (20), which is adjustable independently of the movable lip insert, is defined by the upper and lower die halves and the shim plate disposed therebetween. A plurality of push-pull bolts (30) provide a coarse adjustment mechanism for adjusting the relative positions of the lower and upper die halves with respect to each other in a direction generally parallel to that in which the movable lip insert may be moved.

  • Patent number: 5626673
Abstract: An adjustable slot coater die (500) for use in a rotary coater device is provided, comprising a die manifold (502) into which hot melt material may be introduced and having a plurality of distribution channels; and an adapter (506) reversibly attachable to the die manifold, the adapter including at least one die opening (552) through which hot melt material may exit the die. The die opening (552) is formed by a notched shim plate (552) disposed between the adapter and a mouthpiece (508) attached thereto. Selected manifold distribution channels (530) of the plurality may be sealed to prevent hot melt material from exiting the manifold through the sealed distribution channels. The manifold also includes (i) a filter for filtering the flow of hot melt material flowing therethrough, and (ii) a plurality of heater cartridges installed at locations (536) therein.

  • Patent number: 5494518
Abstract: A support structure for a slot coating die is provided. The support structure comprises a plurality of support members connected with a frame, and a slot coating die head structure which rests on and is coupled to certain of the support members. The frame comprises a pair of spaced apart side frame members, and the plurality of support members comprises: (i) a pair of outer support members, each disposed adjacent a respective side frame member and pivotally supported thereon, (ii) a pair of intermediate support members, each disposed adjacent a respective outer support member and pivotally supported thereon, and (iii) a pair of inner support members, each disposed adjacent a respective intermediate support member and pivotally supported thereon. Each of the pair of inner support members has a respective support surface, and the slot coating die structure rests on the support surfaces of the pair of inner support members and is coupled to the pair of inner support members for movement therewith.
