  • Publication number: 20080244019
Abstract: The present invention is a system and method for simply and intuitively establishing and using a communication link with another user. Various embodiments of the present invention allow one or more non-technically oriented users to also easily set up for, and engage easily in a video call. In an embodiment, a communication application used over a network (e.g., the Internet) is seamlessly downloaded onto a user's machine if necessary. The user is provided with an account which has already been created/registered with the application. In addition, the user's account is linked to at least one other account, and information for each account is populated into the buddy-list or contact information for the other account. Providing of already created/registered accounts, and the linking of various accounts, permits easy and seamless communication between users. In one embodiment, cards are used to provide the user with information regarding the pre-registered accounts.

  • Publication number: 20080147929
Abstract: The present invention is a system and method for seamlessly and transparently combining or collectively processing different multimedia sources and/or destinations in the computer world, where such combining is independent of the application using and/or providing the multimedia data. A device in accordance with an embodiment of the present invention can accept inputs from the appliance world (e.g., with standards such as CCITT standards, SDI, NTSC, PAL, etc. or analog signals), as well as inputs from the computer world (e.g., with protocols such as USB), and communicate them cohesively to a host computer after appropriately selecting/mixing them. A device in accordance with an embodiment of the present invention can also receive signals using computer protocols from a host and appropriately route them to one or more output devices.

  • Patent number: 5294417
Abstract: A process for the removal of mercury from industrial waste streams is disclosed wherein the waste stream is a nitrate based solution that has been decomposed by the addition of hypochlorite. The method involves adding a reducing agent to reduce the hypochlorite and/or adjusting the pH by the use of a strong acid to less than about 2.0, converting any residual chlorine to a soluble unreactive salt, adding a soluble precipitating agent, such as sodium sulfide, to the solution in a ratio to the mercury present of greater than 1:1 to about 2:1 to precipitate out the mercury as a mercury compound. The solution is then filtered to remove the precipitated mercury compound.
