  • Patent number: 7614765
Abstract: A device for providing emergency lighting for firefighters is described. The device includes a housing having at least one laser disposed therein. A power source powers the at least one laser when the device is activated. The device can be activated using, for example, a pressure-activated switch, a smoke-activated switch, a heat-activated switch, or the like.

  • Publication number: 20080204280
Abstract: Systems and methods according to the exemplary embodiments provide techniques for illuminating airport travel paths, e.g., runways, taxiways, ground vehicle access paths, etc., and to use the illumination to communicate with pilots, aircraft and ground personnel. Different colors of light, which may be generated by lasers, are used in various combinations and in reaction to various inputs.

  • Patent number: 6527416
Abstract: A beam from a laser is light which is much more efficiently produced and which much more efficiently projects over distance than light from an incandescent source. However, because of its concentrated nature laser light has generally been of no use in viewing objects. A laser indicator which uniformly disperses a laser beam so that it may be used to view objects and particulates in the air comprises: a laser generator for generating a parallel beam; a first lens positioned in front of the laser generator having a rounded curvature, so that as the beam of light projects through the lens, the parallel beam of light is uniformly diverged; and, a housing maintaining the laser generator and the first lens in alignment. For some applications the above laser indicator further provides for a power switch and a power source being a battery. The housing carries the power switch and further comprises a cavity to house the battery.

  • Patent number: 6320516
Abstract: FAA regulations mandate that a pilot must have sufficient visibility to see the airport, and then the runway before landing; and sufficient visibility to see a substantial portion of the runway before taking off. In adverse weather conditions when visibility is reduced flights are cancelled, delayed, and rerouted to land where visibility is adequate. Poor visibility is one of the major causes of air traffic fatalities. One aspect of this invention discloses a method of illuminating an aircraft landing location to facilitate identification and aircraft guidance thereto comprising the following steps: projecting a laser beam upwardly from the location so that an aircraft may be better able to target the landing location particularly in conditions of poor visibility.

  • Patent number: 6126031
Abstract: A waste container which automatically dispenses and positions a sack within the waste container when an existing sack, full of waste is removed from the waste container is disclosed. One aspect of the invention is an adaption to dispense a roll sacks into a conventional waste container of the type having a side wall, a top rim, and a lower bottom wall 30. The adaption comprises: an upper bottom wall extending across an interior of the container so that a sack holding compartment is formed in the bottom portion of the container, with upper bottom wall having a central sack outlet opening therethrough; and, a sack inlet access opening into the bag holding compartment to permit insertion of unopened sacks therethrough. A second aspect of the invention provides for an upper bottom wall insert for a conventional waste container to facilitate storage and dispensing of unopened sacks into the container.
