  • Patent number: 4339053
Abstract: A container having a pull tab secured to a scored removable section. A pivot member tethers the removable section to the container top after the can is opened by pulling the tab. An indicator is provided to show that the container has been opened. The indicator is in the form of a strip adhesively attached to the top across the tear strip so that when the can is opened, the indicator is torn and one or more pieces remain in the top as an indication that the can has been opened. In addition, other forms of indicators such as chemical, may be used. The indicators can be used on the conventional can openers or on cans having other devices such as sanitary drinking portions.

  • Patent number: 4234099
Abstract: A container having a pull tab secured to a scored removable section. A pivot member tethers the removable section to the container top after the can is opened by pulling the tab. The removable section may be so constructed that it can be swung back over the opening and pressed back into place to reseal the container. An indicator may also be provided to show that the container has been opened and resealed. The pull tab may also be provided with a locking arrangement for releasably locking the pull tab to the container edge in either open or closed position. In some constructions, a second air vent opening may be provided and a single unitary pull tab member may open and close both openings simultaneously. This member is pivoted to the can top to tether it to the can but allow a pivotal action to open or close the openings. This form may also be provided with an indicator for showing the breaking of the seal.

  • Patent number: 4008823
Abstract: A container having a pull tab secured to a scored removable section. A pivot member, metal or plastic, is pivotally riveted at one end to the container top. The other end of the member overlies the removable section inner and is attached to it by riveting, welding or gluing. When the pull tab is used to tear the removable section from the top, it remains attached to the pivot member and can be swung to one side to permit pouring or drinking from the opening. In a resealable container having a central air opening and a peripheral pouring opening, a plastic closure extends over and is bonded to the scored portions of both openings. The plastic closure is pivotally riveted to the top between the openings and is provided with a pull tab at each end. When the tabs are pulled toward each other both openings will be opened and the closure can be pivoted at right angles to expose them for pouring. The closure can then be swung back over the openings and pressed in to close them again.
