  • Patent number: 6572310
Abstract: A chuck includes a generally cylindrical body having a nose section and a tail section. The tail section is configured to rotate with the drive shaft, and the nose section has an axial bore formed therein. The body defines an air passageway extending through the body between the axial bore and an area about the tail section. A generally cylindrically sleeve is disposed about the body and substantially encloses the area. It is configured to extend to a housing of the drill so that air from the fan is forced into the area, through the air passageway and into the axial bore.

  • Patent number: 6540237
Abstract: A chuck for use with a manual or powered driver includes a generally cylindrical body having a nose section and a tail section. The tail section is adapted to rotate with the drive shaft. The nose section defines an axial bore with angular passageways for receipt of chuck jaws. The chuck includes a generally cylindrical sleeve in driving engagement with a nut mounted about the chuck body so that when the sleeve is rotated with respect to the body, the jaws will be moved thereby. The jaws are slidably positioned in the passageways and include a tool engaging face and threads on the opposite side thereof to engage threads on the nut. The body includes a thrust bearing ring received by the nut so that the thrust ring holds the nut against forward and rearward axial movement with respect to the body.

  • Patent number: 6260856
Abstract: A chuck for use with a manual or powered driver having a rotatable drive shaft includes a pawl having a deflectable burr biased toward a catch in a chuck driver. A chuck sleeve defines a cam surface disposed with respect to the catch and the burr so that the cam surface disengages the burr from the catch when the sleeve is in a first position with respect to the driver and releases the burr to engage the catch, and rotationally fix the pawl to the driver, when the sleeve is in a second position with respect to the driver. The pawl is rotationally fixed to the chuck body when the sleeve is in the second position.

  • Patent number: 6173972
Abstract: A driver includes a housing, a driveshaft rotatable with respect to the housing and a chuck. The chuck includes a generally cylindrical body and a nut rotatably mounted relative to the body so that relative rotation between the nut and the body moves the chuck toward an open or closed position. A first sleeve is rotationally fixed to the nut and is axially movable and rotatable with respect to the body. A collar is disposed operatively between the first sleeve and the body. The collar is rotationally fixed to and axially movable with respect to the body and is axially fixed to and rotatable with respect to the first sleeve so that the collar moves axially with the first sleeve and with respect to the body between a first axial position and a second axial position. The collar is rotatable with respect to the housing in the first position and is rotationally fixed to the housing in the second position.
