  • Patent number: 4433321
Abstract: A pressure transducer is disclosed having a potentiometer including a resistor and relatively movable conductive wiper and a pressure sensor responsive to a variable pressure signal to move the wiper along the resistor so as to convert the variable pressure signal into a variable voltage signal. The resistor is mounted in conductive relationship in the potentiometer and so as to be slidably adjustable external to the transducer and relative to the wiper to thereby enable ready calibration of the voltage signal with respect to the pressure signal.

  • Patent number: 4342421
Abstract: A thermostatic expansion valve is disclosed for a refrigerant system that modulates the fluid flow with a capsulated refrigerant pressure that is temperature regulated through direct heat conduction from the evaporator outlet and further controls the flow with evaporator inlet pressure modulated by a venturi effect.

  • Patent number: 4270934
Abstract: A vehicle air conditioning system compact suction accumulator-dehydrator adaptable for multiple applications to trap liquid refrigerant flowing from the evaporator. The accumulator comprises a hollow vertically disposed tubular casing, providing top and bottom imperforate wall portions. The casing has an inlet and an outlet located in a side of the casing adjacent its top portion in substantial axial alignment. A generally U-shaped tube is located in the casing chamber with one end having a generally right-angled portion projecting into the outlet in a manner to hangingly support the tube in the chamber. An inverted cup-shaped baffle is supported in spaced relation on the tube other end for positioning in front of the casing inlet to provide a passageway from the inlet through the chamber to the inside of the tube.

  • Patent number: 4236875
Abstract: A pressure operated control valve operative to regulate the flow of fluid to a hydraulic modulating cylinder having a fixed hydraulic bleed which cylinder operates a mechanism for varying the displacement of a compressor of an automotive air conditioning system to maintain a predetermined control or system pressure. The system pressure continually surrounds a sealed bellows seated in the closed end of a tubular bellows cover. High pressure fluid is continually supplied to the control valve which has a ball and seat to totally restrict fluid flow to the modulating cylinder when the system pressure exceeds the setting pressure of the valve. When the system pressure drops below the setting pressure, the bellows extends against an axial pin which forces the ball from its seat, thus allowing high pressure fluid to flow to the compressor modulating cylinder operating the compressor mechanism and reducing the stroke of the compressor pistons.

  • Patent number: 4231713
Abstract: A modulation delay valve for a variable capacity compressor operative to prevent the premature reduction of the pumping capacity of the compressor. A compressor suction chamber pressure sensing bellows, located in a pressure control cell, regulates a hydraulic control valve which in turn controls the flow of oil to a hydraulic cylinder operative to vary the displacement of the compressor. The delay valve functions, by sensing a compressor discharge reference pressure, to delay the operation of the hydraulic control valve by cutting-off communication of the suction pressure signal to the bellows cell allowing the compressor to maintain its maximum pumping rate. Upon the compressor discharge chamber pressure falling below the reference pressure the delay valve discharge cavity pressure correspondingly falls, allowing the delay valve to open communication between the bellows control cell and the compressor suction chamber to resume modulation of the compressor.

  • Patent number: 3965693
Abstract: An automatically modulated suction throttling valve for an air conditioning system which during relatively high ambient temperature conditions maintains a first pressure level in the evaporator and during lower ambient temperature conditions maintains a higher second pressure level in the evaporator. The throttling valve includes a reciprocal piston valve movable in response to the difference between suction pressure and evaporator pressure to throttle refrigerant flow and maintain the evaporator pressure at a level to prevent frost formation. Pressure responsive means are provided to exert supplemental closing force on the piston valve to increase the evaporator pressure in response to decreasing suction line pressure.

  • Patent number: 3962884
Abstract: A piloted refrigerant valve for an air conditioning system to control refrigerant pressure within an evaporator to prevent frost accumulation on its exterior surfaces. The valve includes a disc-shaped hollow thermal sensor filled with water which solidifies and expands upon sensing the freezing temperature to cause a pilot valve to block a bleed port and thereby increase the fluid pressure above a reciprocally mounted piston valve. The pressure force produced on the piston valve moves it to a closed position to block refrigerant flow and resultantly to increase refrigerant pressure and temperature in the evaporator. After an initial start-up period of operation, the sensor maintains a position which locates the reciprocal piston valve so as to produce a substantially constant non-freezing temperature of refrigerant in the evaporator.

  • Patent number: 3953984
Abstract: A refrigerant control valve for air conditioning systems of the hot gas bypass type including a bypass passage between the compressor outlet and the evaporator inlet through which refrigerant flow is regulated by a pressure operated valve member one side of which is exposed to compressor outlet pressure and the other side of which is exposed to refrigerant pressure in a control chamber. The control chamber is connected by a bleed passage to the compressor inlet and a Schrader-type bleed valve therein to allow the discharge of refrigerant from the control chamber when open so that an opening pressure differential is established across the valve when the bleed valve is open. A sensor-actuator for the bleed valve is supported near the evaporator outlet in the refrigerant flow therefrom and includes a housing with a rigid wall and a movable wall which encloses an interior space filled with water.
