    Abstract: The present invention relates to methods of predicting the risk of osteoporosis. Specifically, the methods comprise isolating genomic DNA from an individual and determining an allelic pattern for IL-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1ra) in the genomic DNA. The identification of at least one copy of allele 2 indicates increased susceptibility to osteoporosis.
