  • Patent number: 10976396
Abstract: Described here are systems and methods for evaluating the extent of brain-skull tethering, which may also be referred to as loss of trabecular reserve, in subjects using magnetic resonance elastography (“MRE”). The present disclosure describes a method for assessing progressive damage to arachnoid space (“SAS”) trabeculae. The method generally includes measuring the relative movement between the brain and the skull using MRE. As one example, an MRE-based method named slip interface imaging (“SII”) can be implemented. By measuring trabecular reserve in subjects who have a history of prior head trauma, the susceptibility of a given subject to future injury can be assessed.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 7, 2018
Date of Patent: April 13, 2021
Assignee: Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research
Inventors: Ziying Yin, Richard Ehman, Yi Sui, John Huston, III, Meng Yin

  • Patent number: 10132905
Abstract: A phantom for magnetic resonance elastography (MRE) is provided. In particular, systems and methods for a phantom that is capable of generating a wave-like pattern in MRE images where a wavelength of the generated wave-like pattern is controlled by the phantom geometry. The geometrically controlled wavelength enables the phantom to calibrate MRE image acquisition and mechanical property calculation.

  • Publication number: 20060264736
Abstract: A noble gas is administered to a subject to fill the lungs and magnetic resonance elastography image data is acquired while. vibrations are applied to the chest wall. Shear waves are established in the gas-filled lungs by the vibrations and a shear modulus image is reconstructed from the MRE image data that may be used in the diagnosis of lung disease.

  • Publication number: 20060253020
Abstract: A magnetic resonance elastography (MRE) scan is performed using an array of transducers for applying a strain wave to tissues in a region of interest. A calibration process is performed prior to the scan in which the strain wave produced by each transducer in the array is imaged using an MRE pulse sequence so that information may be acquired that enables each transducer to be properly driven during a subsequent MRE scan.

  • Publication number: 20050270029
Abstract: A driver for use in applying an oscillating stress to a subject undergoing a magnetic resonance elastography (MRE) examination includes a passive actuator located in the bore of the magnet and in contact with the subject. A remotely located acoustic driver produces acoustic energy in response to an applied current and this energy is coupled therethrough a flexible tube to the passive actuator. A movable element in the passive actuator vibrates in response to this acoustic energy.

  • Patent number: 6647134
Abstract: An MRA image is corrected for motion artifacts using an iterative, autocorrection process in which corrections are tried and the quality of the resulting reconstructed image is measured. Corrections are made to the acquired three-dimensional data while the metric which measures image quality is applied to a two-dimensional projection image.
