  • Patent number: 8948735
Abstract: A method for delivering a mobile terminated call to a mobile device communicating with a mobile switching center (MSC) in one example comprises steps of attempting to deliver the mobile terminated call to a mobile device, receiving a message that the mobile device is no longer in the location area served by the visiting MSC and forwarding the mobile terminated call to a different visiting MSC. The mobile terminated call is forwarded directly from one VMSC to another VMSC without requiring two potentially international calls to be placed serially from the GMSC to a VMSC. This method of Mobile Termination Roaming Forwarding can reduce substantial delay in call setup while saving network resources during establishment of the first call.

  • Publication number: 20070213031
Abstract: A method of processing multi-leg calls in a communication network is provided. The method comprises: receiving a call for a user at a first entity in the network; establishing a first call leg to a second entity; generating a first charging data record with at least one field, wherein the field contains a charging identifier for the first call leg; receiving a response from the second entity; establishing a second call leg to a third entity; generating a second charging data record with at least two fields, wherein the first field contains a charging identifier for the second call leg and the second field contains a copy of the charging identifier for the first call leg; and sending the charging data records to a third entity.

  • Publication number: 20070177603
Abstract: An apparatus in one example has: a plurality of networks operatively coupled to one another, and having respective end points; and a single SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) profile useable by each network of the plurality of networks; wherein two end points, via signaling mechanisms within SIP, negotiate a level of support for ISUP (Integrated Services Digital Network User Part) services that are usable between the two end points.

  • Publication number: 20060274738
Abstract: An exemplary method controls features and services implemented by nodes in a first communication network where nodes in a second network are not adapted to provide such control or services. A first signaling message is sent by a device in response to receipt by a recipient in the first network of a packet transmitted from an originator in another network that does not support the control and services of the first network. The first signaling message is received at a first perimeter node of the first network that in response sends second signaling messages to the other perimeter nodes. Upon the determination of the occurrence of an event by a second perimeter node, a third signaling message is sent from the second perimeter node to the recipient so that it traverses intermediate nodes in the first network utilized for carrying packets from the originator to the recipient. The third signaling message contains control information defining a service feature to be controlled by the intermediate nodes.

  • Publication number: 20060211423
Abstract: A network infrastructure device of an apparatus in one example comprises a first external interface and a second external interface. The network infrastructure device communicates with a first telecommunication network through the first external interface. The network infrastructure device communicates with a second telecommunication network through the second external interface. The network infrastructure device allows a mobile communication device that has a first registration in the first telecommunication network and a second registration in the second telecommunication network to receive, through the second telecommunication network, a call directed to the first registration. The first telecommunication network is unable to directly query the second telecommunication network for a status of the second registration.

  • Publication number: 20060105766
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for delivering a call request to a mobile unit. A call request is received for a dual mode mobile unit that is able to access a plurality of communication networks utilizing a plurality of communication protocols. The call request is routed to a call delivery application server, which determines which of the communication networks to deliver the call request. The call request is sent to the determined communication network.

  • Publication number: 20050245263
Abstract: In the method, a packet call controller establishes a bearer path between the end point and the second network when a call transfer request associated with the mobile station is received from a network providing circuit switched communication. The call transfer request is triggered by a circuit voice call origination from the mobile station that includes an identifier that the packet call controller uses in recognizing that the call transfer request requests transfer of a packet switched call to a circuit switched call on the network.

  • Publication number: 20050243870
Abstract: The method provides for a first network controller, operating according to a first radio technology, to form and send a relay message to a second network controller, operating according to a different, second radio technology. The relay message includes an embedded message for the second network controller. The embedded message may be a transition message requesting transition of a packet switched call for a mobile station handled by the first network controller to a call for the mobile station handled by the second network controller. The method further provides selection of another wireless element for service at a wireless unit, using a current wireless element. A wireless unit receives a message identifying at least one other wireless element, available to the wireless unit and to which a wireless element currently in communication with the wireless unit is also in communication with and the wireless unit selects another wireless element for possible future service based on the message.

  • Publication number: 20050245261
Abstract: By obtaining the address of a circuit switching controller in the a network with which a mobile station is registered, a packet call controller instructs the circuit switching controller to send notification of when a handoff request is received for a mobile station by the circuit switching controller. The handoff request is for transferring a packet switched call to the circuit switching controller as a circuit switched call. The notification request includes an identifier, which the circuit switching controller uses in notifying the packet call controller of the handoff request. In response to the notification, the packet call controller re-establishes call control and bearer paths between the call endpoints.

  • Publication number: 20050232198
Abstract: A method is provided for controlling communications to and from an access terminal during a hand off period. A smart packet filter is used to identify a packet flow, apply a first treatment to a packet flow based on its destination, and transmit the first treated packet flow along a first route to the access terminal. During a hand off, the packet stream is duplicated, a second treatment is applied to the packet flow and the second treated duplicate packet flow is transmitted to the access terminal via a second route.
