Publication number: 20100063568Abstract: An implantable electrode array including a carrier on which plural electrodes are disposed. Also disposed on the carrier is an array antenna over which signals are wirelessly received. A tether is connected to the carrier. A tether antenna is attached to the tether. After the electrode array is implanted, during a trial period instructions and power are transmitted to the array antenna over the tether antenna. If the trial is successful, the tether is disconnected from the electrode array. If the trial is not successful and extraction of the array is necessary, extraction is accomplished by pulling on the tether. Electrode array removal may be facilitated by the pulling of the array into an extraction tube disposed over the tether.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 10, 2009Publication date: March 11, 2010Inventors: Douglas A. Staunton, John J. Janik, Richard F. Huyser

Patent number: 7645066Abstract: A mixing assembly for mixing bone cement includes a housing, a lid, a handle, and two mixing paddles, a first and a second mixing paddle. The lid is removably attachable to the housing. The handle has a portion that extends through the lid and that is rotatable in a first rotational direction. The first mixing paddle is operatively coupled to the portion of the handle. As a result, the first mixing paddle rotates with the portion of the handle in the first rotational direction. The second mixing paddle is operatively coupled to the first mixing paddle for rotating opposite the portion. As such, when the portion of the handle and the first mixing paddle rotate in the first rotational direction, the second mixing paddle rotates in a second rotational direction that is opposite the first rotational direction.Type: GrantFiled: December 12, 2005Date of Patent: January 12, 2010Assignee: Stryker CorporationInventors: Christopher Matthew Tague, Richard F. Publication number: 20090159535Abstract: A method of collecting medical waste in a waste collection unit using a disposable manifold and filter assembly. The disposable manifold and filter assembly includes a manifold housing with a plurality of inlets, a neck extending from the manifold housing to define an outlet, and a filter basket disposed in the manifold housing. The method includes inserting the neck into the waste collection unit to direct the medical waste passing through the disposable manifold and filter assembly into the waste collection unit. Tubes are connected to the inlets of the manifold housing to provide a path for the medical waste to travel from a target site, e.g., a patient, to the manifold housing. A vacuum is drawn in the waste collection unit to pull the medical waste through the tubes and into the disposable manifold and filter assembly where the medical waste is processed/filtered in a plurality of stages.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 26, 2009Publication date: June 25, 2009Applicant: STRYKER CORPORATIONInventors: David Hershberger, Richard F. Patent number: 7497340Abstract: A manifold and filter assembly for use with a waste collection unit is provided. The manifold and filter assembly directs and filters medical waste flowing into the waste collection unit. The manifold and filter assembly comprises a manifold body defining a chamber and an outlet for directing the medical waste into the waste collection unit. A manifold cap is fitted to the manifold body to close the chamber. The manifold cap defines a plurality of inlets for receiving the medical waste. A filter basket having a bottom and a peripheral wall defining a plurality of openings is snap-locked to the manifold body. The filter basket is positioned such that a fluid bypass is formed between the filter basket and the manifold body and between the filter basket and the manifold cap. The fluid bypass is in fluid communication with the outlet whereby the medical waste can flow over the peripheral wall to the outlet through the fluid bypass.Type: GrantFiled: February 18, 2005Date of Patent: March 3, 2009Assignee: Stryker CorporationInventors: David Hershberger, Richard F. Publication number: 20090054853Abstract: A surgical tool system including a tool such as a retractor, forceps or a power activated tool. The system also includes a source of gas and a means for inducing the flow of a agent that has a therapeutic effect into the gas stream. The tool has a bore into which the gas stream is introduced. The tool also has a discharged port from which the gas stream is discharged toward the site to which the tool is applied. The gas plume that is discharged from the tool forms a barrier that prevents airborne contaminates from reaching the site to which the tool is applied. The tool also has a device for emitting energy separate from any energy the tool emits to perform its function. This energy emitter emits energy that activates the therapeutic agent discharge from with the gas.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 21, 2008Publication date: February 26, 2009Inventors: Richard F.
