  • Patent number: 8183867
Abstract: The invention relates to a localization system for localizing an underground object for an earthmoving machine comprising a working part. The localization system comprises a fastening component and a detector component. The fastening component can be arranged on the working part for example by means of magnets. The detector component is adapted to detect the object using an electromagnetic field that can be associated with the object and is arranged on the fastening component so as to swing like a pendulum, thereby effecting an alignment of the detector component under the effect of gravity. Optionally, the localization system comprises an arithmetic component for deriving a distance information of the object from the detected value. The localization system also comprises a display component for displaying and/or forwarding the detected value and/or the distance information.

  • Publication number: 20060012490
Abstract: In order to control the sonde of an underground object, such as an underground boring tool, a predetermined sequence of rotation steps is applied to the object and that sequence is detected. The detection of the appropriate sequence causes the sonde to change its function, for example by changing the carrier frequency of the signal transmitted by the sonde on to change the data output sequence or transfer rate, or to change output power. While it is possible to use a single rotation step, the use of more than one step, with each step to be carried out within a predetermined time, reduces the risk of error.

  • Publication number: 20050152700
Abstract: A security system for controlling access to an enclosed conduit along which runs fibre optic cable, the conduit having a cover for access to the cable, the system having a communications receiver and a modulator responsive to an output of the receiver for coupling non-intrusively to the fibre optic cable adjacent the cover, the communications receiver being responsive to the presence or absence of an access authorisation signal from an operator to cause the modulator to introduce a signal to the fibre optic cable indicative of the authorisation status.
