  • Patent number: 7137430
Abstract: The invention includes apparatus for controlling the lift and tilt of a horizontal window blind. A tilting drum, conic cord-gathering shaft, torsion spring and support cradle may be combined to provide lift and tilt adjustment with a single rotational control. An angular surface near one end of the cord-gathering shaft deflects winding coils of a lifting cord down the length of the cone. The torsion spring and spring stops in the device allow tilt adjustment to take place in conjunction with the rotation of the cord-gathering shaft. The preferred embodiment includes a cord cover to guide the coils as the diameter of the cord-gathering shaft decreases.

  • Patent number: 6981539
Abstract: A window treatment support, such as a support for a cellular shade and other kinds of shades, includes a head rail, a clutch mounted on the head rail to support and operate a window treatment; and a cord engaging the clutch for selectively raising and lowering the window treatment. The clutch includes a pulley having a plurality of radial teeth defining a space sized to receive the cord. At least some of the teeth including a flexible projection forming an interference fit with the cord. The head rail is a bottom wall shaped to maximize the size of the clutch without substantially affecting the size of the head rail.

  • Patent number: 6935401
Abstract: Generally speaking, in accordance with the invention, an improved window treatment system is provided. The system includes a head rail, a spring clutch disposed at one end of the head rail and an idler disposed at the other end of the head rail. Significantly, a pair of universal brackets, one coupled to the spring clutch and the other coupled to the idler, are used. Each bracket is suitable for fixedly mounting either the clutch or the idler at either end of the head rail. The brackets are identical.

  • Patent number: 6817402
Abstract: A cassette system for window treatment includes a head rail with a base, end brackets attached to the base in a facing relationship and at least one roller blind with a mandrel and a decorative panel that is wound on the mandrel. The panel can be selectively drawn off the mandrel by rotation thereof. The end brackets are identical and mate with end plugs on the mandrel to rotationally support the roller blind. In an alternate embodiment, two or more roller blinds are supported by intermediate brackets or by an intermediate bracket and an end bracket. The end plugs on the madrel(s) have identical shapes to mate with respective legs on the end brackets.

  • Patent number: 6792999
Abstract: A tensioning device for the cord loop of a window treatment apparatus includes a cord guide disposed in a housing, a biasing element such as a spring and a locking member that locks the cord guide into an installation position. During installation, the cord guide is fixed so that it cannot move and does not affect the tensioning of the cord. After installation, the locking member is removed and the cord guide can move in one direction or another to properly tension the cord.

  • Patent number: 6685592
Abstract: A bi-directional clutch for operating a window dressing such as a roller shade includes a protective guard for securing the window dressing to a stationary structure, a gear box for transmitting rotation to an output member in response to the operation of an elongated operating member such as a cord, and an antirotational member that prevents the undesirable operation of the output member. The output member is coupled to the window dressing. The gear box includes a gear pulley coupled to the elongated operating member, a planetary gear and a stationary gear. The gear box is arranged and constructed to transmit motion to the output member in response to the activation of the elongated operating member, at a predetermined mechanical advantage.
