  • Patent number: 5048673
Abstract: A transport system for incrementally advancing cartons in a carton processing machine through a series of work stations spaced along a processing line, the transport system including an endless chain carried by at least two rotatable idler gears, the chain having at least one run parallel to the processing line, arm members spaced along and protruding laterally from the chain, with the arm members along the one run extending across the processing line to contact cartons located therealong, a piston-cylinder unit having a reciprocating piston rod longitudinally movable in opposite directions and a connecting device for selectively connecting the piston rod to the chain during movement of the piston rod in one direction causing the chain and the arm members spaced thereon to be incrementally advanced.

  • Patent number: 4676860
Abstract: A machine for forming open ended cartons from flat die cut blanks of flexible material. The machine includes a magazine adapted to contain a supply of the blanks, and first, second and third forming stations through which the blanks are successively shifted by automatically operable transfer mechanisms. The blanks are progressively folded as they progress through the forming stations. At a final stage in the forming process, adhesive is selectively applied to the undersides of exposed side flaps, and these side flaps are then folded to produce the desired end product. At various stages during the forming process, the partially erected blanks are supported both internally and externally in order to avoid deformation or collapsing of open ends, and to insure precise bending along fold lines.

  • Patent number: 4109444
Abstract: A machine for erecting a tubular carton from flat folded form to rectangular form open at both ends, partially closing one end of the carton while it is being manually or mechanically loaded at the other end, and advancing the box to a sealing machine which closes and seals the upper and lower end panels.

  • Patent number: 4028999
Abstract: A machine for forming a precut paperboard blank into carton form with the lid extending vertically from its related back wall in unfolded condition. The forming means includes spring pressed rollers acting in cooperation with a mandrel to fold the carton side panels from horizontal to vertical and other means to cause interlocking of end tabs on the front and back panels with slits in the end panels. The structure also includes vertical slots enabling the unbent end flaps on the lid to pass downwardly therethrough as the carton is formed.

  • Patent number: 4006575
Abstract: A machine for sealing the lid to the body of a paperboard carton. The lid has two end flaps and one front flap. A carton is fed into the sealer back side first. Glue is applied to the oppositely disposed end flaps. The carton is raised by an elevator to the level of another glue applying device located above the entrance to the sealer. A second carton is inserted on the lowered elevator. Both glue applying devices are then actuated simultaneously so that glue is applied to the end flaps of the second carton and the front flap of the first carton. Thus in two stages, glue is applied to the three flaps of each carton. The cartons are progressively pushed upward by successive cartons placed on the elevator. Pressure is applied to the flaps after receiving the glue so that proper sealing occurs during the time the cartons are moving upward step by step through the pressure applying means.
