Patent number: 8906140Abstract: A filtration module is provided that includes a filter member and a spacing member disposed in detached, contact engagement along a length of each member, such length extending about a longitudinal axis of a filtration module to define a concentric and detached plurality of filtration layers, and an interleaved, concentric and detached plurality of spacing layers, respectively. One or both of the plurality of spacing layers and plurality of filtration layers may provide a radially-inward directed force. The spacing member may be elastically deformed in the filtration module to apply a radially-inward directed force and a radially-outward directed force, wherein the filtration and spacing layers are retained in substantial fixed spatial relation. A retaining member may be located to engage an external side surface of the filtration module. A filtration module may be constructed by winding the filter member and spacing member about a longitudinal axis of the module.Type: GrantFiled: October 25, 2012Date of Patent: December 9, 2014Assignee: W.L. Gore & Associates, Inc.Inventors: Steve Stark, Richard Gebert, John Knotts, John Pasmore

Patent number: 8753414Abstract: A cassette filter assembly for removing particles from an air stream, in particular from a gas stream entering a gas turbine, has an upstream end and a downstream end and comprises a mounting frame to which a filter media is fitted and which has a mounting flange extension adapted for mounting the cassette filter to an opening of a partition. The mounting flange extension is positioned between the mounting face of the partition and the mounting face of the cassette filter such that continuous filter media is disposed partially within the clean side of the filtration unit and partially within the dirty side of the filtration unit.Type: GrantFiled: April 2, 2009Date of Patent: June 17, 2014Assignee: W. L. Gore & Associates, Inc.Inventor: Richard Gebert

Patent number: 8147583Abstract: The invention provides a multiple layer filter media for removal of particles from a fluid stream. The multiple layer filter media may include a depth filtration layer, a membrane filtration layer and a support layer. Additional layers may be present. The membrane filtration layer may comprise expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE). The various layers of the multiple layer filter media may be bonded together through a plurality of point bonds. The point bonding process may include simultaneously bonding multiple layers of the multiple layer filter media together in a single operation. The point bonds may be created using ultrasonic bonding.Type: GrantFiled: June 8, 2007Date of Patent: April 3, 2012Assignee: Gore Enterprise Holdings, Inc.Inventors: Richard Gebert, Wai Sing Poon, Steve Stark

Patent number: 7250387Abstract: The present invention is an improved filtration system, filtering method and unique chemical composition for capturing mercury and other pollutants in flue gases generated by process gas streams. The improved filtration system may take various forms depending on the type of filter system most desired for a particular application; however, the filter system includes at least a filter element or elements and an adsorbent component having a composition suitable for capturing mercury on the downstream side of the filter element.Type: GrantFiled: January 20, 2006Date of Patent: July 31, 2007Assignee: Gore Enterprise Holdings, Inc.Inventors: Vincent Durante, Dean Gambale, Richard Gebert, Marc Plinke, Steve Stark, Richard A. Publication number: 20060016749Abstract: In one aspect, the invention provides an article consisting essentially of a paper layer including about 10 Wt % to about 40 Wt % of a thermoplastic polymer and an ePTFE membrane laminated to the paper layer. Preferably, the paper layer includes about 10 Wt % to about 30 Wt % of a thermoplastic polymer. More preferably, the paper layer includes about 18 Wt % to about 25 Wt % of a thermoplastic polymer. A paper layer including about 20 Wt % of a thermoplastic polymer is most preferred. In another aspect, the thermoplastic polymer may comprise poly vinyl acetate. In yet another aspect, the invention provides a filter media consisting essentially of a cellulose paper layer including about 20 Wt % poly vinyl acetate binder; and an ePTFE membrane laminated to said cellulose paper layer. In still another aspect, the invention provides a paper layer in which the paper is cellulose paper.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 22, 2004Publication date: January 26, 2006Inventors: Michael Debes, Richard Gebert
