Publication number: 20070256246Abstract: Mattresses and improved fabric covers for providing mattresses that have smooth surfaces. Additionally, methods for manufacturing non-quilted mattress covers and for manufacturing mattresses employing non-quilted mattress covers. The systems and methods described herein include mattress panels that can be manufactured separate from the inner core construction, and laid over the inner core to be fastened in place as a sleeping surface for the mattress. Optionally, these mattress panels can include a layer of fire retardant material, that may be added as a layer of material or that may be incorporated into one or more of the layers, such as a filler layer, in the mattress panel.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 2, 2006Publication date: November 8, 2007Applicant: DREAMWELL, LTDInventors: Richard Gladney, Corey Westerman

Publication number: 20060107459Abstract: Presently described are several alternate embodiments for shield devices to enclose and thereby prevent entrapment of objects in the interior space formed by elements of an adjustable bed in the raised position. Such shield devices may include physical barriers. In other embodiments, the shield may include optical sensors that provide rapid detection of intruding objects, thereby activating controls that preclude the further movement of the adjustable bed mechanism. In a further embodiment, an operative shield may be provided by means of a specially adapted controller configured such that only an authorized user can cause the adjustable bed to operate, thereby preventing the possibility that the bed could be operated while any object has intruded into the interior space.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 9, 2006Publication date: May 25, 2006Inventor: Richard Gladney

Publication number: 20050223496Abstract: A low-profile mattress comprises an inner spring core having a plurality of spring coils and having an upper and lower surface. The mattress further includes a padding layer disposed on the upper surface and a quilting layer disposed over the padding layer and having an exterior layer of a liquid resistant material, wherein the innerspring core padding layer and quilting layer are dimensionally adapted to be less than eight inches in height.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 6, 2005Publication date: October 13, 2005Applicant: Dreamwell, Ltd.Inventors: Timothy Oakhill, Richard Gladney, Don Hofmann
-
Publication number: 20050173826Abstract: A method of manufacturing a mattress including providing a foam block, convoluting the foam to form a tongue extending longitudinally along the foam block, and removing at least a portion of the tongue, to thereby form a channel within the foam block.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 13, 2004Publication date: August 11, 2005Inventors: Michael DeFranks, Richard Gladney, Neal Van Patten
-
Publication number: 20050108826Abstract: A versatile support member constructed of a metallic mesh is provided in a bedding product. The support member is placed on top of the mattress core (whether foam or spring coil) before the mattress cover is attached. The support member may be constructed of titanium wire in a woven or welded mesh grid or web configuration, although other metals (such as, but not limited to, vanadium, chromium, platinum, molybdenum, nickel, iron, zinc), alloys thereof, or fiber composites (such as, but not limited to, carbon or graphite) may be used. The support member may be directly attached to the core or may be secured to the upper or lower border rods by hog rings, stitching, lacing, or other conventional means.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 4, 2004Publication date: May 26, 2005Applicant: DREAMWELL, LTD.Inventors: Richard Gladney, Robert Hellyer

Publication number: 20050066446Abstract: A mattress includes reduced-firmness materials along a central region thereof in order to mitigate the occurrence of a central ridge following repeated use of the mattress as a sleeping surface. An associated box spring may also, or instead, present a central region with reduced firmness. An adjustable member may be employed to controllably compensate for the development of a central ridge.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 26, 2003Publication date: March 31, 2005Inventor: Richard Gladney

Publication number: 20050039259Abstract: A mattress foundation is constructed substantially of plastic material. The foundation is defined by a semi-rigid cavity including a generally flat top surface, at least one downward depending sidewall, and at least a portion of an outer surface of the sidewall having a pattern formed thereon. Optional ground support members retain the foundation in a substantially horizontal orientation. An outer surface of one or more of the ground support members has a pattern formed thereon. An outer surface of an optional headboard may have a pattern formed thereon. A portion of an upper side of the top surface may have a pattern formed thereon. The pattern formed on the sidewall, the top surface, the ground support, or the headboard may give a quilted appearance to the foundation. The pattern may be three-dimensional or substantially flat. The pattern may be integral with the foundation or attached thereto.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 21, 2004Publication date: February 24, 2005Inventor: Richard Gladney

Publication number: 20050039265Abstract: Mattresses that have a point of attachment to an adjustable bed frame that provides a pivot point about which the mattress can pivot when rising to an inclined position. In one embodiment the mattress has a pivoting member extending transversely through the mattress and provides a pivot point about which one portion of the mattress can pivot in relation to another portion of the mattress. By placing the member about midway through the mattress, one half of the mattress can pivot relative to the other half of the mattress, while the center point of the mattress is held in place. By pinning the member to the frame, the center of the mattress is held against the frame even when one portion of the mattress is inclined relative to the other. This prevents or ameliorates the mattress' tendency to lift off the frame when the frame pivots into an inclined position.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 29, 2003Publication date: February 24, 2005Applicant: Dreamwell, Ltd.Inventor: Richard Gladney

Publication number: 20050000026Abstract: A mattress core support system in the form of a padded tray with a rigid bottom surface. The tray is comprised of four foam sides, providing edge support for persons sitting on the edge of the mattress, and containing therein a mattress core. The system is compatible with (and sized for) all standard mattress cores, e.g., coil spring, foam, foam/coil composite, and all known sizes. The mattress avoids the need for flipping and the associated increased cost of a two-sided mattress by including as its bottom member a rigid platform.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 15, 2003Publication date: January 6, 2005Inventor: Richard Gladney
