  • Patent number: 7086078
Abstract: The present invention describes a directional CATV component, preferably a signal tap, having a housing frame where coaxial signal cable connections are made allowing for tap circuitry to be placed on either side of the housing frame. The invention allows for the rapid exchange of tap circuitry between front and rear positions providing for the reversal of signal frequency direction. The signal tap comprises a housing frame, a back cover with a support clamp and a signal tap cover containing a plurality of female F-connectors. Loss circuitry is mounted on a PC board that is attached to the tap cover.

  • Publication number: 20020080439
Abstract: A system for monitoring ingress in a bi-directional HFC network having a domain manager located at the hub to monitor the status of the network, a fiber-optic trunk, and a series of nodes located along the trunk is provided. The monitoring system comprises a BTP (Broadband Test Point) located at a tap, integrated into a node or amplifier, or strand-mounted as a stand-alone device. The BTP includes an ingress monitoring interface connected to the HFC network through a downstream-facing directional coupler to detect ingress in the network downstream from the interface, and a modem connected to the network through an upstream-facing directional coupler. The modem is in communication with the domain manager to transmit detected ingress information.

  • Patent number: 6129597
Abstract: A system for bypassing a signal tap that includes a pair of plug ports which are aligned with a pair of contact terminals that connect the conductors to the tap. The system generally comprises a pair of contact plugs adapted to be inserted into the plug ports and a jumper. Each plug includes a generally hollow body and a plunger. The hollow body is substantially open at a first end and terminates in a head surface, having an aperture therethrough, at a second end. Each plunger is moveable between a non-contact position and a contact position. The jumper includes at least two pins which are conductively interconnected and adapted to be inserted into the apertures to allow a signal flowing through the tap to flow through the jumper.

  • Patent number: 6054905
Abstract: A CATV power inserter is presented allowing multiple power sourcing configurations while providing isolation between the RF signal and alternating current insertion ports. The power inserter achieves the variety of configurations by using a four point terminal block having uniform dimensions allowing simple connecting bars and fusing or current limiting options to be interchanged thereby increasing economy and performance.

  • Patent number: 5959507
Abstract: A CATV passive signal component is disclosed performing bidirectional power insertion or extraction while providing directional RF signal splitting. The signal splitter presents a low burden to the distribution system and can bidirectionally pass alternating or direct current already impressed on the RF signal, or, provide an insertion or extraction function.
