  • Patent number: 5490393
Abstract: An absorption chiller having a generator absorber heat exchanger with a split device for directing a first portion of strong solution from the absorber to the generator at a first temperature, while simultaneously directing a second portion of strong solution from the absorber to the generator at a second temperature. The absorption chiller operates to transfer weak solution from the generator to the absorber at a temperature of about 265.degree. F., while transferring strong solution from the absorber to the generator at two different temperatures--preferably about 210.degree. F. and about 240.degree. F.

Inventors: Dale A. Fuesting, William E. Stephan, Richard H. Merrick
  • Patent number: 4742693
Abstract: This invention relates to a cooling and heating system which operates on the absorption and phase change heat exchange principle. More particularly it relates to a continuous heat actuated, air cooled, double effect generator cycle, absorption system. In further aspects, this invention relates to a system constructed for use with an absorption refrigeration solution pair consisting of a nonvolatile absorbent and a highly volatile refrigerant which is highly soluble in the absorbent. A disclosed refrigerant pair are ammonia as the refrigerant and sodium thiocyanate as the absorbent. An absorption cycle is disclosed using the thermo physical properties of sodium thiocyanate/ammonia, absorption/refrigerant pair.

Date of Patent: May 10, 1988
Assignee: Columbia Gas System Service Corp.
Inventors: Edward A. Reid, Jr., F. Bert Cook, Stephen P. Cremean, Richard H. Merrick, Edgar M. Purvis

  • Patent number: 4676221
Abstract: The present invention provides a uniformly-heated heating chamber for a barbecue grill by mounting two U-shaped burners within that heating chamber so the arms thereof extend toward each other to help define a generally rectangular annulus which surrounds the middle of that heating chamber and which is displaced inwardly from the walls of that heating chamber. Gas-emitting ports are provided in the inner and outer faces of the arms and ends of those burners; and hence a central area of burning gas and a generally rectangular surrounding annulus of burning gas are provided by those burners. As a result, burning gas fills substantially all of the length and width of the heating chamber to provide uniform heat across that length and width.

  • Patent number: 3964273
Abstract: An absorption refrigeration apparatus includes an annular absorber-evaporator surrounding a condenser both of which are evaporatively cooled by wetting their exterior surfaces and by flowing a stream of ambient air over the wetted surfaces. The refrigerant vapor generator is disposed within the condenser in a position such that vapor leaving the generator condenses on the inside of the condenser wall and is withdrawn from the bottom of the condenser.
