  • Publication number: 20030008314
Abstract: A method for performing a rapid, homogenous assays for monitoring the reactions of a binding target, by immobilizing a fluorescent-capable chelate complex that is derivatized so as to posses recognition binding ligands, labeling the complex with a labeled second chelator that is added to the assay thereby forming a fluorescent mixed chelate, and measuring the fluorescent mixed chelate, whereby the measurement of the label enable monitoring of the reaction of the binding target. A rapid assay for performing the above method including a first chelating molecule, a fluorescent-capable ion complexed with the first chelating molecule, a second chelating molecule for reacting with the fluorescent-capable ion complexed with the first chelating molecule, and a measuring device for measuring fluorescent resulting from the second is chelating molecule reacting with the fluorescent-capable ion complexed with the first chelating molecule.

  • Patent number: 5186272
Abstract: An automotive power steering gear having a four-way, open-center valve defining inlet branch passages between an inlet port of the steering gear and opposite working chambers of a steering assist fluid motor and further defining discharge branch passages between the opposite fluid motor working chambers and a discharge port of the steering gear. Lands and grooves on a spool and a sleeve of the valve define variable orifices in the inlet and discharge branch passages. The steering gear further includes bypass passages around each of the variable orifices in the inlet branch passages and check valves in the bypass passages which open the passages only when the pressure in the corresponding one of the fluid motor working chambers exceeds the pressure at the inlet port. When one or the other of the check valves is open, fluid recirculates from one of the fluid motor working chambers to the other.

  • Patent number: 4763764
Abstract: A clutch assembly to interconnect rotatable drive and driven members. A cylindrical clutch element is operatively connected to one of the rotating members, and a sleeve-like clutch element is attached to at least one other of the rotatable members. The sleeve-like clutch element is disposed in spaced, concentric relation about the cylindrical clutch element. A first helical spring having opposed ends is disposed concentrically about, and frictionally engages, the exterior surface of the cylindrical clutch element. A second helical spring having opposed ends is disposed concentrically within, and frictionally engages, the interior surface of the sleeve-like clutch element. The opposed ends of each helical spring serves as an energizing or a trailing end, depending upon the drive or driven function of the clutch element engaged thereby.

  • Patent number: 4509447
Abstract: A double-wall structural vessel includes an inner tubular liner and an outer tubular shell surrounding the liner in spaced relation, both the liner and the shell comprising helically curved strips of material, and a continuous and helically curved spacer/stiffener therebetween. The liner and shell are relatively shifted axially such that the shell edges are out of alignment with the liner edges, and the spacer spans contiguous edges at successive turns of the liner as well as at successive turns of the shell, and is secured to the strips as well as to the liner edges and to the shell edges.

  • Patent number: 4485709
Abstract: A sliding block with a female die acts in conjunction with a four bar linkage mounted block with a male die to punch indexing holes in a moving metal strip. The block with male die continually seeks to rotate, but is held in position by the sliding block. The sliding block is programmed to periodically move forward at the speed of the moving metal strip and to return to starting position. This frees the male die to rotate to punch out the hole, and to continue to rotate back into the starting position to be held by the returned sliding block.

  • Patent number: 4455823
Abstract: A diesel exhaust particulate trap is provided with a heat resistant particulate filter which includes a perforated and pleated metal substrate member coated with a ceramic fiber filter material on its interior surface so as to define a filter chamber for the inside-out flow of exhaust gases through the filter. In a preferred embodiment, an electrical particulate filter igniter is associated with the filter. The igniter includes a trap door pivotably secured to the substrate member, which is normally biased to a closed position by a spring but which can be opened by exhaust flow prior to an accumulation of particulates on the filter. Opening and closing of the trap door is used to effect deenergization and energization, respectively, of an electrical heating element used to initiate combustion of particulates.
