  • Publication number: 20030155304
Abstract: The invention pertains to the use of a granulate for the removal of liquid, gaseous and/or dissolved organic constituents from a process stream, said granulate consisting of dimensionally stable, porous synthetic particles with an extracting agent having a boiling point higher than 350° C. at 1 bar immobilized therein, characterized in that the granulate is obtainable by suspension polymerization of a monovinyl compound in the presence of a polyvinyl compound, with at least 50% wt. % of the monomer units having an aromatic structure and with the solvent for the monomers acting both as a non-solvent for the copolymer and as an extracting agent.

  • Publication number: 20030144457
Abstract: The invention pertains to a hyperbranched esteroxazoline polymer obtainable from a polymerization reaction of A-functional and B-functional compounds, characterized in that the polymer comprises a polymer backbone having ester and oxazoline groups and having hydroxymethyl end groups, wherein the A-functional compound stands for tris(hydroxymethyl)methanamine and the B-functional compound stands for a cyclic anhydride, or a dicarboxylic acid, or a derivative thereof; having a ratio of equivalents of oxazoline groups to equivalents of backbone ester groups of 1:2 to 2:1, and a number average degree of polymerization Pn greater than 6.

  • Publication number: 20030130386
Abstract: Acicular hydrazine-based diurea derivative crystals of the formula R′HN—CO—NH—NH—CO—NHR wherein R and R′ independently are unsubstituted or substituted hydrocarbyl groups with an average length of the crystals ranging from about 0.1 to about 300 micrometers, and the use of such crystals as a rheology modifier in coatings and adhesives. Preferably, the hydrocarbyl group is a hexyl, octadecyl, benzyl, or cyclohexyl group.

  • Patent number: 6106745
Abstract: Disclosed is a method of making a graded index polymer optical fiber comprising a multicomponent spinning process employing spinning masses comprising a core spinning mass and a sheath spinning mass, the spinning masses comprising a polymer, a polymerizable monomer, and an initiator. The monomer in the core spinning mass has a higher refractive index than the monomer in the sheath spinning mass, and the spinning masses are extruded and cured. The spinning conditions are chosen such that the monomers are substantially contained within the fiber during extrusion and curing and the total of the spinning masses is intrinsically thread forming. The spinning masses may be extruded in, e.g., water. The core and the sheath polymer may be, e.g., poly(methyl methacrylate); the core monomer may be methyl methacrylate, and the sheath monomer may be 2,2,3,3-tetrafluoropropyl methacrylate; or the core and the sheath polymer may be, e.g.
