Abstract: A process for making an ethylated polycyclic aromatic compound in a mixed aromatic fluid, the process comprising contacting the mixed aromatic fluid containing a polycyclic aromatic compound and a monocyclic aromatic compound having an ethyl substituent in the presence of an acid catalyst under conditions sufficient to effect transalkylation to form the ethylated polycyclic compound and a de-ethylated monocyclic aromatic compound and removal of the de-ethylated monocyclic aromatic compound. A process for decreasing naphthalene concentration in a naphthalene-containing aromatic fluid by acid catalyzed transalkylation of an alkylbenzene and naphthalene to form benzene and an alkylnaphthalene.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an accessory that is attached to vehicles and it rotates on its axis as the force of the wind drives it. The rotation of the accessory is independent of the rotation of the wheel. It contains two or more air driven surfaces. The ratio of the drag coefficients of the leading surface to the trailing surface is equal to or greater than 1.01. The accessory spins either clockwise or counter clockwise as the vehicle picks up speed creating an extremely attractive view.

Abstract: This invention provides a method for controlling the growth of weeds (i.e. undesired vegetation) at a locus which comprises applying to the locus a herbicidally effective amount of: (a) picolinfen, a phenoxypicolinamide derivative of formula (I); and (b) a partner herbicide, selected from isoxazole, dione, urea and hydroxybenzonitrile herbicide.

Abstract: Automatic activation (i.e., first time access) of digital wireless/cellular mobile telephones with a private/localized wireless/cellular system (i.e. a secondary system) occurs within an area having an overlapping macrocellular primary wireless communication system (i.e., a dominant system). Operation of the secondary access procedure is achieved by shielding/masking an access and authentication process for the secondary system from interference from the control signal levels of the dominant wireless communication system. During the first time access, the secondary system is supplied with the SID and MIN and ESN numbers for authentication and resultant access.

Abstract: A catalyst system suitable for preparing substantially terminally unsaturated atactic polymers or copolymers of &agr;-olefins having a number average molecular weight in the range 300-500,000 comprises (A) a metallocene complex and (B) a cocatalyst comprising (i) a Group III Metal alkyl compound and (ii) a triaryl boron compound. Preferred metallocenes are those having alkyl ligands on the metal atom. The preferred Group III metal alkyl compound is triisobutyl aluminum and the preferred triaryl boron compounds is tris(pentafluorophenyl)boron.

Abstract: There are disclosed refrigeration working fluid compositions comprising tetrafluoroethane refrigerants and certain polyol esters of C7-C10 branched alkanoic acids or mixtures of such branched acids with linear C7-C10 monoalkanoic acids. The polyols are mono-, di- or technical grade pentaerythritol or trimethylolpropane; the esters exhibit suitable viscosity ranges and miscibility with refrigerants over a broad compositional range. The acids have a defined average effective carbon chain length and a certain degree of methyl branching for polyols other than trimethylolpropane.

Abstract: Aqueous-form additive systems, and methods of blending the same with a matrix resin, are disclosed whereby acrylic-based impact modifier compositions, butadiene-based impact modifier compositions and acrylic-based processing aids are used in aqueous form without the need for isolation to the traditional powder-form. The aqueous additive systems of the present invention provide a means for the design of novel additive compositions. The aqueous additive systems of the present invention also provide a great degree of flexibility in preparation of matrix resin blends and formulations. Additionally, the aqueous additive systems of the present invention allow for the reduced cost of manufacturing additives and reduced cost in blending matrix resin formulations.

Abstract: Derivatives of insulin are described which are conjugated to thyroid hormones. The thyroid hormone is, for instance, D-thyroxine (3,3′,5,5′-tetraiodo-D-thyronine). Other analogues are described in which a spacer having a alkanediyl chain at least eleven carbon atoms long is included. Binding studies show useful binding characteristics to thyroid binding proteins. New synthetic methods in which racemisation of the thyroxin is minimised, are described.

Abstract: Mechanical data transfer and signal processing systems are described, as internal parts of a complete stand-alone computer. These components for a Mechanical Computer operate under a unifying BUS methodology using a single moving path-differentiated particle for each signal. A binary wheel flip-flop component family and an advanced multi-state component family allows both conventional and highly unconventional uses, including natural decimal BUS operations. At present, all necessary supporting components are anticipated, if not detailed. Some system details are incomplete, such as for exact component interconnection lists, sequencer lists, and host system development software, although use of such internal sequencer lists is taught. A modular or plug-in compatible packaging method is also detailed, which frees the user or experimenter from having to design individual connections.

Abstract: Optical devices fabricated from solvent processible polymers suffer from susceptibility to solvents and morphological changes. A semiconductive polymer capable of luminescence in an optical device is provided. The polymer comprises a luminescent film-forming solvent processible polymer which contains cross-linking so as to increase its molar mass and to resist solvent dissolution, the cross-linking being such that the polymer retains semiconductive and luminescent properties.

Abstract: The invention relates to a variety of uses for novel carbon monoxide containing polymers. More specifically, the invention employs the use of low molecular weight polymers containing carbon monoxide for use as adhesive additives and as fluids (e.g., solvents and synthetic base stocks).

Abstract: Aqueous based emulsion copolymers containing vinyl ethylene carbonate, vinyl acetate, and one or more other ethylenically unsaturated monomers, and aqueous based poly(vinyl alcohol)-containing emulsion copolymers formed by emulsion copolymerization of vinyl ethylene carbonate, vinyl acetate, and optionally one or more other ethylenically unsaturated monomer, in the presence of poly(vinyl alcohol). These emulsion copolymers can be used in a variety of applications such as adhesives and coatings.

Abstract: A subscriber loop test apparatus relates to the testing of a subscriber loop by the use of a touchtone telephone. The touchstone buttons on a telephone provide Dual-Tone, Multiple Frequencies for each key pressed. For example, referring to FIG. 1, pressing the ‘3’ key causes tones at 697 and 1477 Hz to be sent across the telephone line. Pressing a sequence of keys provides discrete coverage of the frequency band from 697 to 1477 Hz, through the use of the touchtone telephone. The frequency band from 697 to 1477 Hz can be characterized in this fashion. Information about the line: loop loss (loop length), presence of bridge taps (i.e., excessively long bridge taps in particular) or loading coils, and the presence of Digital Loop Carriers (DLCs), et cetera. The use of the switch-hook flash provides the ability to determine the channel (impulse) response of the loop, including any noise and hum that may be on the loop due to imbalance or coupled interference.

A determination is made of multiple data column names and multiple pivot columns in the input table. A row is generated in an output table for each data column name, having one data column name field including one data column name and at least one pivot column field including the value in one pivot column field in the input table, wherein each of the rows in the output table for each data column name has different values in at least one of the data column name field and pivot column field.

Abstract: A process and reactor for chemical conversion is taught. The process allows the selective breaking of chemical bonds in a molecule by use of fast rise alternating current or fast rise pulsed direct current, each fast rise portion being selected to have a suitable voltage and frequency to break a selected chemical bond in a molecule. The reactor for carrying out such a process includes a chamber for containing the molecule and a generator for generating and applying the selected fast rise current.

Abstract: Aqueous based emulsion copolymers containing vinyl ethylene carbonate, vinyl acetate, and one or more other ethylenically unsaturated monomers, and aqueous based poly(vinyl alcohol)-containing emulsion copolymers formed by emulsion copolymerization of vinyl ethylene carbonate, vinyl acetate, and optionally one or more other ethylenically unsaturated monomer, in the presence of poly(vinyl alcohol). These emulsion copolymers can be used in a variety of applications such as adhesives and coatings.

Abstract: Atactic copolymers derived from an alpha-olefin, optionally ethylene and a non-conjugated diene are provided. The units derived from the diene provide pendant groups having internal or terminal double bonds. Suitable dienes for preparing such copolymers include: CH2═C(R1)—R2—C(R3)═CH2, CH2═C(R1)—R4—C(R3)═CH—CH3, wherein R1 and R3 are indenpendently selected from hydrogen or an alkyl group, R2 and R4 are alkylene moieties having a chain length of at least 3 carbon atoms and at least 1 carbon atom respectively, or a diene having a cyclic ring with one strained ring double bond and a substituent on the ring of the Formulae: ═CR5R6, —CR7═CH2, wherein R5 and R6 and R7 are independently selected from hydrogen or a C1-C3 alkyl. Also provided are processes for the functionalisation of the atactic copolymers and their use as lubricating oil additives.

Abstract: Broadband services are provided to customer premises, whose existing premise wiring does not have broadband capability, by disaggregating the various signals, including broadband services, supplied to the premise from a broadband communication link at the customer premise's edge, so that the existing POTS wires, within the customer premises, may function as separate channels for varied broadband and narrow band services. Intra premises broad band services are disaggregated so that POTS service responds normally to the network while internal LAN networks operate independently of the outside system network.
