  • Patent number: 4371676
Abstract: A process for the preparation of cyclopentadiene copolymers, wherein cyclopentadiene, dicyclopentadiene, tricyclopentadiene, their C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 -alkyl derivatives or co-dimers of cyclopentadiene with a diene of 4 or 5 carbon atoms are reacted with acetylenically unsaturated compounds, with or without other copolymerizable olefinically unsaturated monomers, at from 200.degree. to 320.degree. C. The cyclopentadiene polymers prepared according to the invention may be used, for example, as resin additives for surface coatings, tackifiers in adhesives or resins for printing inks.

  • Patent number: 4286959
Abstract: The invention seeks to provide a free-flowing formulation of one or more disperse dyes, with which packages can be dyed homogeneously by the HT process without filtering out of the dye, and which is suitable for the thermosol dyeing process. According to the invention such a formulation comprises one or more disperse dyes (a) enclosed in a matrix of one or more polymers (b) which are soluble, or colloidally soluble, both in water and in an organic solvent, in the form of a solid solution in a state of molecular dispersion or of extremely fine subdivision so that in an X-ray spectrum the dye appears amorphous. The formulations may contain additional assistants conventionally present when dyeing hydrophobic fibers. The formulations contain the disperse dye in an extremely fine state of subdivision. Because of the latter, the formulations give level package dyeings, without filtration of the dye, and very level dyeings when used by the thermofixing process.

  • Patent number: 4172102
Abstract: Unsaturated polyester molding compositions which contain ethylenically unsaturated polyesters, copolymerizable ethylenically unsaturated monomeric compounds and a polyalkylene ether copolymer have improved shelf life, can be cured with little shrinkage and after curing give a smooth surface with high gloss.

  • Patent number: 4164613
Abstract: Production of polymers in bead form by forming a water-in-oil suspension of an aqueous solution containing at least one water-soluble ethylenically unsaturated monomer in an inert hydrophobic liquid organic dispersion medium and polymerizing the suspended monomer in the presence of a polymerization initiator and a protective colloid obtained by polymerizing (A) 60 to 100% by weight of at least one monomer selected from the group consisting of cyclopentadiene, dicyclopentadiene, tricyclopentadiene and alkyl-substituted derivatives thereof, and (B) 0 to 40% by weight, based on the mixture of (A) and (B), of a mono- or diethylenically unsaturated monomer copolymerizable with (A).

  • Patent number: 4126739
Abstract: Copolymers, having a uniform structure, of cyclic dienes are obtained by heating a mixture of from 35 to 96% by weight of cyclopentadiene, dicyclopentadiene and/or methyldicyclopentadiene, which may or may not be partially replaced by methylcyclopentadiene or tricyclopentadiene or methyltricyclopentadiene, from 1 to 30% by weight of maleic anhydride, maleic acid or a monoalkyl maleate, which maleic acid or maleic acid derivatives may be partially replaced by other .alpha.,.beta.-olefinically unsaturated monocarboxylic acids or dicarboxylic acids of 3 to 5 carbon atoms, and from 3 to 45% by weight of one or more vinyl-aromatics to 230.degree.-320.degree. C, during which heating the mixture does not remain at from 30.degree. to 230.degree. C for more than 5 hours, and preferably for not more than 2 hours. The copolymers may be used as binders for printing inks and coatings, and as additives in adhesives.
