Patent number: 7797780Abstract: A pool cleaner for cleaning a pool includes a housing with an upper surface and downwardly projecting sidewalls extending from the upper surface for defining a front, a rear, a first and a second side of the housing. A first pair of wheels includes a first wheel being pivotally mounted relative to the first side of the housing and a second wheel being pivotally mounted relative to the second side of the housing. A tie rod is operatively mounted relative to the first wheel and the second wheel. A second pair of wheels is mounted on the rear end of the housing. As the pool cleaner traverses a pool surface and the first or second wheel is moved to be at a predetermined angular relationship relative to the housing, the tie rod ensures that the first and second wheels are at substantially the same angular relationship relative to the housing.Type: GrantFiled: November 9, 2005Date of Patent: September 21, 2010Assignee: Smartpool, Inc.Inventors: Joseph Hui, Richard Holstein

Patent number: 7488415Abstract: A disposable salt chlorine generator for use in conjunction with a swimming pool, spa, hot tub or large vessel of water includes a bracket for mounting a housing on a wall of a swimming pool, spa, hot tub or large vessel of water. The housing is releasable mounted relative to said bracket and contains a compartment wherein a halogen-producing electrode configuration is removably mounted relative to the compartment. An electrical cable is operatively connected to the halogen producing electrode configuration for providing electrical power thereto.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 2006Date of Patent: February 10, 2009Assignee: Smartpool IncorporatedInventors: Joseph W. Hui, Richard Holstein

Patent number: 7445720Abstract: A salt chlorine generator for use in conjunction with a swimming pool, spa, hot tub or large vessel of water includes a bracket for mounting a housing on a wall of a swimming pool, spa, hot tub or large vessel of water. The housing is releasable mounted relative to said bracket and contains a compartment wherein a halogen-producing electrode configuration is removably mounted relative to the compartment. A predetermined length of electrical cable is stored within the compartment for enabling the halogen producing electrode configuration to be selectively removed from said compartment for replacing, servicing or winterizing.Type: GrantFiled: August 19, 2005Date of Patent: November 4, 2008Assignee: Smartpool IncorporatedInventors: Joseph Hui, Richard Holstein

Publication number: 20080268009Abstract: The present invention relates to hot tubs and spas, and in particular to a dispensing unit that distributes a water soluble solution of a scented fragrance in combination with a biomedicide or enzyme to provide a time release aroma therapy experience for a hot tub or spa, the biomedicide in the form of an enzyme aiding in the dissipation of the scented fragrance to allow introduction of a different replacement scented fragrance.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 26, 2007Publication date: October 30, 2008Inventors: Alan Schuster, Larry Ruizzo, Shawn Mikuski, Richard Holstein
-
Publication number: 20080223771Abstract: The present invention relates to swimming pools and other pools of standing water, and in particular to a dispensing unit that distributes a desired chemical solution that maintains the desired water chemistry of the pool or spa, the chemical solution being color coded with a water soluble colorant or dye which serves as an indicia to the pool or spa owner of the depletion of the chemical solution from the dispensing unit and the need for replacement.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 14, 2007Publication date: September 18, 2008Inventors: Alan Schuster, Larry Ruizzo, Shawn Mikuski, Richard Holstein

Publication number: 20070012901Abstract: A virtual electronic perimeter fence includes at least a first, second and third fence post each including an emitter for emitting a beam of infrared light at a predetermined frequency. The first, second and third fence posts include a receiver for receiving the predetermined frequency of infrared light emitted from a designated fence post. A beam of infrared light of a first frequency is emitted from the first fence post to the second fence post and a beam of infrared light of a second frequency is emitted from the second fence post to the third fence post and infrared light of a third frequency is emitted from the third fence post to the first fence post for providing a virtual electronic perimeter fence that provides an alarm if an interruption occurs in the beam of infrared light while eliminating cross-signals therebetween. A light, sound and video system may be provided.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 28, 2006Publication date: January 18, 2007Applicant: SMARTPOOL INCORPORATEDInventors: Shawn Mikuski, Rein Teder, Richard Holstein

Patent number: 7014753Abstract: An electrolytic cell combined into a unitary structure with a liquid circulation fitting, which purifies water by electrode plates inside the cell when an aqueous solution is present. The unitary structure replaces the existing water return fitting. This integrated structure is well suited for use in pools, tubs, spas, fountains or similar large liquid containers. The production of halogen inside the structure is not required to coincide with the cycle of the existing pool filtration system. Rather, the electrodes receive a continuous supply of low level power and the halogen produced inside the structure is disbursed back into the body of water through the fitting using an integrated, dedicated circulation pump, special channels in the surface and a check valve to insure one directional flow from the pool pump and natural convection. Using fresh water drawn from the vessel, halogen is then disbursed back into the vessel with the water at a location different from where the fresh water was drawn.Type: GrantFiled: July 21, 2004Date of Patent: March 21, 2006Assignee: Smartpool Inc.Inventors: Richard Holstein, Joseph Hui
