Patent number: 8779633Abstract: A device includes a load sensor configured to measure a load demand that indicates that a load is operating in an active state or an inactive state. A load switch is configure to selectively supply electric energy to the a load in accordance with a load control signal. A controller in communication with the load switch and the load sensor is configured to compare the load demand to a load threshold, generate the load control signal based at least in part on the load demand relative to the load threshold, and transmit the load control signal to the load switch when the load demand is substantially equal to or greater than the load threshold. The controller is further configured to determine the load threshold based at least in part on the load demand when the load is operating in either the active state or the inactive state.Type: GrantFiled: September 20, 2011Date of Patent: July 15, 2014Inventors: Joseph W. Hodges, John A. Sopuch, Thomas D. Lasky, Richard J. Hodges

Publication number: 20120074782Abstract: An example system includes a sensor configured to generate a human-in-area signal. The human-in-area signal may indicate that a human is in an area of the sensor. The system may further include a power-saving device in communication with the sensor and configured to receive the human-in-area signal. The power-saving device may provide power to a load based at least in part on a load demand and in accordance with the human-in-area signal.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 20, 2011Publication date: March 29, 2012Inventors: Joseph W. Hodges, Richard J. Hodges, Thomas D. Lasky, John A. Sopuch

Publication number: 20110181114Abstract: A system is described including a master power saving device configured for connection with a master load. The master power saving device is configured to determine when the master load is in an operating condition and a non-operating condition, and the master power saving device provides non-continuous power to the master load when the master load is in a non-operating condition. A slave power saving device is configured for connection with a slave load. The slave power saving device is configured to receive a signal from the master power saving device to turn off said slave load.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 6, 2011Publication date: July 28, 2011Applicant: Hammerhead International, LLCInventors: Joseph W. Hodges, J. Anthony Sopuch, Richard J. Hodges, Thomas D. Lasky

Patent number: 7384092Abstract: An armrest assembly for a vehicle is provided. The vehicle includes a body with a door having an inner panel. The door is preferably slidable with respect to the body and selectively openable with respect to the body by a selectively actuatable door handle assembly. The armrest assembly includes a selectively retractable armrest member pivotably mounted with respect to the inner panel and movable between a deployed position and a retracted position. The door handle assembly is operable to enable the selectively retractable armrest member to move from the deployed position to the retracted position when the door handle is actuated to provide clearance between the door and the body as the door opens. A vehicle incorporating the armrest assembly is also disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: September 27, 2006Date of Patent: June 10, 2008Assignee: GM Global Technology Operations, Inc.Inventor: Richard J. Hodges

Patent number: 7328933Abstract: The present invention provides a door assist pedal assembly including a housing member that is mountable to a vehicle floor panel. A pedal is pivotably secured to the housing member, and a cam is also rotatably secured to the housing member such that the cam is engaged by the pedal. A spring configured to bias the pedal into a fully depressed position is disposed between the pedal and the housing member. A cable couples the cam with a vehicle door. Actuation of the pedal by a vehicle occupant causes the cam to rotate and thereby retract the cable such that the vehicle door is pulled toward a closed position.Type: GrantFiled: May 17, 2006Date of Patent: February 12, 2008Assignee: GM Global Technology Operations, Inc.Inventors: Nicholas A. Vitale, Richard J. Hodges, Thomas H. Hipp, Dan W. Figlioli
