  • Patent number: 4748019
Abstract: Existing vaccines against swine dysentery are not very effective. It has now been found that an effective regime of vaccination comprises administering parenterally to pigs a priming dose of killed virulent or pathogenic T. hyodysenteriae effective to stimulate the immune response of the pig to a subsequent dose of a live avirulent or non-pathogenic strain of T. hyodysenteriae and at about the same time or thereafter administering this live strain orally. The invention provides a kit for use in such a method. The live strain is preferably NCTC 11628 deposited as a Budapest Treaty patent deposit.
