  • Patent number: 5060431
Abstract: A ridge roof vent adapted to be mounted on the ridge of a roof and comprising a top wall that is spaced from the remainder of the vent and is adapted to receive overlapping pieces of shingle roofing material comprising transversely extending primary indicia provided along the length of the ridge roof vent and including secondary transverse indicia associated with the transverse primary indicia in repetitive series. Each series of transverse primary indicia spans a distance less than the length of a shingle piece. The transverse primary indicia associated with the secondary indicia are positioned such that when a first shingle piece is applied from one end, the end of the shingle piece will be positioned between a pair of equally spaced secondary indicia and can be used to provide an overlap of the ends of the shingle pieces without the need for measurement.

  • Patent number: 5009149
Abstract: A roof vent comprising a one piece plastic body including a base wall having transversely spaced rows of integral vanes extending from one surface thereof. The vanes of adjacent rows are positioned such that the vanes define a sinuous path. Preferably, one of each of the rows has the wings extending at an acute angle to the axis of the wall and the other row of each set of rows has the wings extending at an oppositely directed acute axis to the longitudinal axis of the wall toward the wings of the one row. Thus air is vented through sinuous paths outwardly when the vent is positioned with the wings engaging the roof and the base wall spaced from the roof. Water and snow are prevented by the wings from entry beneath the vent into the building.

  • Patent number: 5000409
Abstract: A one piece wall mounting bracket comprising a plastic body including a front wall and an integral peripheral wall extending from the front wall and having a free edge. Diametrically opposed portions of the free edge of the peripheral wall are formed with notches such that those peripheral portions can engage siding on wall of a building. The portions with the notches are preferably convex to firmly engage the siding. These wall portions can be readily severed to form a straight edge. A portion of the free edge of the wall is formed with a groove for receiving caulking. The groove is defined by a radially peripheral bead on the free edge which includes spaced walls forming the groove for receiving caulking compounds.

  • Patent number: 4920708
Abstract: A wall mounting bracket assembly comprising a one piece plastic body including a front wall, an integral peripheral wall extending from the front wall and an integral peripheral flange for attachment to a wall of a building. In use the body is mounted on the building and then siding is applied to the wall of the building and the edges of the siding are brought into closely adjacent relation to the peripheral wall of the body. A plastic flange member having an axial wall is telescoped over the peripheral wall of the body and until the flange engages the siding. The axial wall of the flange and the peripheral wall of the body having interengaging projections and recesses so that the flange is selectively locked in position.

  • Patent number: 4875318
Abstract: A plastic building product for placement on the wall of a building to provide a louver or window wherein siding abuts the product the product comprises a plastic body having a peripheral wall circumscribing the louver or window, an integral flange extending laterally from the wall for fastening the body to the wall of a building, and a movable flange memebr telescoped over the peripheral wall of the body. The flange member includes a laterally extending flange adapted to overlie portions of abutting siding or the like. The flange member and the peripheral wall include interengaging portions for selectively positioning the flange member at predetermined distances which respect to the flange on the body to accommodate siding of varying thickness.

  • Patent number: 4765110
Abstract: An adjustable length shutter assembly of molded plastic modular construction comprising a pair of side rails which may be cut to desired length, one or more shutter panels slidably received within parallel double-channel tracks extending along the opposing side rails, and upper and lower end rails extending between the side rails and capturing the shutter panels in assembly. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, at least two shutter panels are carried between the shutter side rails and are separated from each other by a mullion piece. In accordance with one important feature of the present invention, the end rails and the mullion piece are so constructed as to overlap the edges of the side rails and shutter panels which are adapted to be adjustably trimmed during the installation process so as to reduce fading and structural deterioration at the cut edges due to exposure to ultraviolet solar radiation.

  • Patent number: 4592518
Abstract: A combined portable sheet bending brake and coil holder wherein the coil holder is mounted and removed from the brake without the use of tools. The brake comprises a frame having a fixed jaw and a movable jaw, an anvil member secured to the fixed jaw, the movable jaw having a clamping surface movable between workpiece clamping and non-clamping positions relative to the anvil member. A bending member is hinged to the fixed jaw. The coil holder supports a coil of sheet material. The frame of the brake and the coil holder have interengaging hooks whereby the coil holder may be mounted and removed from the frame. When the coil holder is in position, the coil is positioned such that the leading edge of the coil may be extended between the clamping surfaces and clamped to permit cut off of a desired length of sheet material.

  • Patent number: 4381633
Abstract: The combination of a decorative non-functional window shutter and a one-piece plastic fastener, and a method of mounting the same to a building wall. The shutter is made of molded plastic or aluminum. The fastener is of non-corrosive plastic construction having a plurality of angled resiliently-deformable teeth which, when inserted through a hole in the shutter into a mounting hole formed in a building wall, tend to flex in the direction of insertion and tend to return to their original position to resist removal.
