  • Patent number: 11370013
Abstract: Method of manufacturing of components used in the field of aviation aircraft and, specifically, an aircraft engine nacelle lipskin. Instead of spinning flat plates, this method uses spinning a cylinder, thus eliminating waste material. It also eliminates the need for rivet lines which results in better laminar flow. Further, there is a reduction of other costs in addition to reducing drag.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 27, 2018
Date of Patent: June 28, 2022
    Assignee: Standex International Corporation

  • Publication number: 20120227873
Abstract: A process for tempering large aluminum lithium alloy component parts to achieve high strength capability and resistance to stress corrosion cracking without the need for the prior art step of cold working the alloy components parts. The process achieves the desired material properties by the use of two novel soaking time periods and the use of novel controlled temperature selection at the two respective soaking times as well as carefully controlling the temperature decrease from one soaking time period to the other.

  • Patent number: 6199419
Abstract: Disclosed is a method of forming a dome from a substantially round blank having a surface area smaller than the surface area of the dome. The method includes the steps of shear forming the blank to form a deformed blank, spin stretching the deformed blank in selected areas along its circumference to form a stretched blank, inside spinning the stretched blank into a rough dome, final dome spinning the rough dome into the finished dome, and flange spinning the dome.

  • Patent number: 6006569
Abstract: Disclosed is a method of forming a dome from a substantially round blank having a surface area smaller than the surface area of the dome. The basic embodiment of the method includes the steps of shear forming the blank to form a deformed blank, spin stretching the deformed blank in selected areas along its circumference to form a stretched blank, inside spinning the stretched blank into a rough dome, and finish spinning the rough dome into the finished dome. In the preferred embodiment, the shear forming step involves coaxially securing an inside surface of the blank to a rotatable flat-nosed conical mandrel, rotating the blank on the flat-nosed conical mandrel, heating a predetermined portion of the blank, and applying a force to an outer surface of the blank such that the blank is deformed in a shape of the flat-nosed conical mandrel to shear form the deformed blank.
