Patent number: 7314904Abstract: Disclosed is a composition of a functionalized polyalphaolefin comprising the reaction product of admixing (a) an alpha-olefin monomer having at least 10 carbon atoms; (b) an unsaturated functionalizing compound; and (c) a polymerization initializer, under reaction conditions sufficient to polymerize the alpha-olefin monomer and unsaturated functionalizing compound. Free radical initiators, especially peroxides are disclosed to be useful in preparing the functionalized polyalphaolefin. The functionalized polyalphaolefins are disclosed to be useful in preparing inks, toners, coatings, candle waxes, lubricating oils, and personal care products.Type: GrantFiled: May 25, 2004Date of Patent: January 1, 2008Assignee: Baker Hughes IncorporatedInventors: Richard J. Patent number: 6841592Abstract: Cationic mordants are described that will not significantly interact with anionic dyes in aqueous jet inks, but will form strong complexes with the dyes on the substrate as the water is absorbed and dissipated. The mordants are cationic amide salts of maleated hydrocarbons, and when in aqueous dispersions have an average particle size of less than one micron. These materials result in less feathering of the ink during printing and improved waterfastness of the ink on a paper substrate.Type: GrantFiled: July 18, 2002Date of Patent: January 11, 2005Assignee: Baker Hughes IncorporatedInventor: Richard J. Publication number: 20040086795Abstract: Coupled alcohol ethoxylates made by reacting alcohol ethoxylates with a diisocyanate have been found to improve the thermal properties of toner compositions and powder coatings. The alcohol ethoxylates have saturated linear alcohol portions of from about 20-70 carbon atom chain lengths. The diisocyanates may be aromatic diisocyanates such as toluene diisocyanate (TDI) and/or methylenediphenyl diisocyanate (MDI). Preferably, about one mole of diisocyanate is reacted with about two moles of the alcohol ethoxylates to form the coupled alcohol ethoxylates that are useful compatibilizers to improve the homogeneity of toner compositions and powder coating compositions.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 24, 2003Publication date: May 6, 2004Inventors: Richard J. Nadolsky, Thomas Joseph Clark, David D. Truong
