  • Publication number: 20190018600
Abstract: Example implementations relate to a restructuring input/output requests directed to a storage device. For example. In an implementation, a storage controller may receive input/output requests directed to a storage device, monitor a power variable of the storage device, restructure the received I/O requests based on properties information about the storage device and a workload level of the received I/O requests, and submit the restructured I/O requests to the storage device. The restructured I/O requests, when serviced by the storage device, allow the power variable to conform with a power policy.

  • Publication number: 20180165031
Abstract: Examples described herein including receiving a first address from a host controller and receiving a second address from the host controller. The first address may be for a first PHY and the second address may be for a second PHY. Based on the first address and the second address, a port mode for a storage drive associated with the first PHY and the second PHY may be determined.

  • Patent number: 9274709
Abstract: Techniques for indicators for storage cells are provided. In one aspect, an indicator is provided that indicates if a portion of storage cells of a storage device contains a pre-defined value. In another aspect, a range of storage cells are initialized to a known value. An indicator may be set to indicate the range of storage cells has been initialized to the known value. In yet another aspect, a request for the indicator may be sent to a storage device. Based on the indicator, initialization of the storage device may be bypassed.

  • Patent number: 6978345
Abstract: A disk drive system including one or more platters, each platter supporting at least one recording surface, where the platters are aligned about a common central axis. The platters spin about the common central axis. A recording head is associated with each recording surface. An actuator mechanism couples to each recording head to move the recording head into proximity with selected portions of the recording surface in response to received commands. At least two replicates of data are stored in at least two data storage areas such that any one of the at least two replicates can be accessed to service a data access request.
