  • Patent number: 9264591
Abstract: An actuator package includes a base frame member and an image sensor. The actuator package further includes a plurality of comb drive actuators affixed to the base frame member by a plurality of respective electrically conductive leaf spring flexures. The respective electrically conductive leaf spring flexures provide an electrical current conductive path between the image sensor and conductors mounted on the base frame member, and the plurality of comb drive actuators is arranged to control the motion of the image sensor in multiple degrees of freedom relative to the fixed structure. Each of the plurality of comb drive actuators includes at least two independent comb drive array portions. At least one of the comb drive array portions generates force tending to move the image sensor out of a plane of the base frame member.

  • Publication number: 20160033739
Abstract: Some embodiments include a fixed chassis structure and a moveable carriage body carrying one or more lenses. The carriage body is movably mounted to the chassis structure so as to limit a plurality of degrees of freedom of movement of the moveable carriage body but to allow movement along an optical axis through the one or more lenses. An inertial actuator is mounted to the moveable carriage body such that the axis of motion of the actuator is parallel to at least one allowed degree of freedom. The moveable carriage body is held in place with respect to the at least one allowed degree of freedom by one or more friction forces received at one or more mechanical contacts with the chassis structure. The inertial actuator is actionable to overcome the friction forces, and an inertial mass is mounted to the inertial actuator on a side opposite the carriage body.

  • Publication number: 20150365568
Abstract: Some embodiments provide an apparatus for controlling the motion of a camera component. In some embodiments, the apparatus includes an actuator module. The actuator module includes a plurality of magnets. Each magnet of the plurality of magnets is poled with magnetic domains substantially aligned in the same direction throughout each magnet. The apparatus further includes a coil rigidly disposed around a lens. Each magnet of the plurality of magnets contributes to the forces to adjust focus of the lens based on Lorentz forces generated from the coil.

  • Publication number: 20150350507
Abstract: Some embodiments include an optical image stabilization system. The optical image stabilization system includes a sensor. The sensor is configured for measuring movements of a camera module stabilized by the optical image stabilization system. Some embodiments further include an optical image stabilization control system for calculating from the movements a calculated position of a moving body. In some embodiments, the moving body is part of a camera module. Some embodiments further include an actuator control for generating electrical signals to move at least two actuators to achieve a calculated position of the moving body. In some embodiments, the actuator control system receives measurements from positions sensors that assess the position of the moving body.

  • Patent number: 9179066
Abstract: In some embodiments, a plurality of expected values of a drive current corresponding to respective ones of a plurality of potential values of a Hall sensor output is determined. An actual value of the Hall sensor output is measured. An actual value of the drive current is measured. A potential value of the Hall sensor output corresponding to the actual value of the Hall sensor output is selected. The expected value of the drive current associated with the selected potential value of the Hall sensor output is compared to the actual value of the drive current. A value of the drive current is adjusted to reduce a difference between the expected value of the drive current associated with the selected potential value of the Hall sensor output to the actual value of the drive current.

  • Publication number: 20150042870
Abstract: Some embodiments include an image sensor and a zoom lens assembly including a plurality of movable lens elements arranged to be moved independent of one another. In some embodiments, the plurality of movable lens elements share an optical axis. Some embodiments include a lens and mirror assembly for admitting light to the miniature camera. The lens and mirror assembly includes a folded optics arrangement such that light enters the lens and mirror assembly through a first lens with an optical axis of the first lens orthogonal to the plurality of moveable lens elements. The lens and mirror assembly includes a mirror for folding the path of light from the optical axis of the first lens to the optical axis of the plurality of movable lens elements, and the lens and mirror assembly further includes an actuator for tilting the mirror.

  • Patent number: 8730599
Abstract: A micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) lens actuator having a support frame including a stationary outer portion surrounding an inner receiving portion. A piezoelectric drive member is positioned within the inner receiving portion and attached to the stationary outer portion. A first movable lens support member and a second movable lens support member are frictionally engaged with opposing ends of the piezoelectric drive member at a contact point along each of the opposing ends using a preload force at the contact point. The piezoelectric drive member may have a first actuation mode which drives movement of the first movable lens support member and the second movable lens support member in a same direction and a second actuation mode which drives movement of the first movable lens support member and the second movable lens support member in different directions.
