Patent number: 11668240Abstract: The engine is adapted to generate thrust or designed to generate torque includes a combustor, the combustor generates an exhaust gas flow to push the rotor blades of a rotor in a rotor housing, the exhaust gas flow rotates the rotor, shaft, and fan which produces a rotating force and produces an air flow. The rotor housing having a first wall, a second wall, and a third wall which guides the exhaust gas flow until the exhaust gas flow reaches a housing gap at the second wall and the exhaust gas flow moves out from the rotor housing, while the first wall having another housing gap for the air flow to go through to cool the rotor and the cooling process adds torque to the engine. The engine includes an optional wind turbine assembly. An air compressor is either driven by an electric motor or driven by other means.Type: GrantFiled: April 2, 2020Date of Patent: June 6, 2023Inventor: Mike Richard John Smith

Patent number: 10869579Abstract: The present invention relates to a drowning prevention device for use in the shower employing an autonomous, gravity-based mechanism. In one example, the drowning prevention device comprises a harness comprising a belt and a lanyard. In a fall situation, the body weight of a user wearing the belt of the drowning prevention device directs the force to the lanyard which pulls an attached cable connected to the shower's valve arm, closing the valve arm and stopping water flow.Type: GrantFiled: March 12, 2018Date of Patent: December 22, 2020Inventor: Richard John Smith

Publication number: 20190277425Abstract: A drowning prevention device is provided that reduces drowning or serious injury in the shower designed primarily for people with Epilepsy. A device that utilizes your own body weight to stop the flow of water should you fall. A nylon belt is worn around the waist which is attached to a lanyard connecting to a slide release tube. The slide release tube joins the activation cable routing up the wall through the cable guides to join a water valve placed between the water feed pipe and the shower head. A water valve cable perch mounts to the valve body and guides the activation cable to the control valve on/off arm. In the event of a fall the users body weight pulls the valve arm to the off position and the lanyard disconnects from the slide release tube separating the user from the device.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 12, 2018Publication date: September 12, 2019Inventor: Richard John Smith

Patent number: 10321228Abstract: A method and apparatus to capture sound produced by an audio device including a sound source and a loudspeaker. The apparatus includes a microphone support coupleable to the loudspeaker and a microphone mounted on the support, the microphone being locatable within a volume surrounded by a diaphragm of the loudspeaker and being arranged to detect pressure waves caused by movement of a vibrating element of the loudspeaker. Aspects and embodiments provide an element to capture sounds from a loudspeaker in a manner which is compact and which ameliorates disadvantages associated with alternative arrangements since a greater core sound to ambient sound ratio may be captured.Type: GrantFiled: April 13, 2015Date of Patent: June 11, 2019Assignees: SAM SYSTEMS 2012 LIMITEDInventors: Richard John Smith, Anthony Herbert Walker

Patent number: 9975124Abstract: Apparatus and methods are provided relating to evaporation of solvents from samples and to prolonging the time taken to carry out an evaporation procedure. A cap for engaging with an open end of a sample container comprises an engaging surface for engaging with the open end, and a body portion which extends over the open end. The body portion is preformed to define an opening which provides a fluid pathway between the open end of the container and the surroundings of the container, such that the cap impedes vapor flow from a sample in the container to the surroundings of the container. A holder for receiving a plurality of such caps is also provided and a method of evaporating a solvent from a sample in a sample container is described.Type: GrantFiled: July 24, 2013Date of Patent: May 22, 2018Assignee: Genevac LimitedInventors: Symon Rose, Robert Hugh Douglas Darrington, John Michael Poole, Graham Broadbent, Donald Roger Lee-Smith, Richard John Smith

Patent number: 8770941Abstract: Efficient impeller or propeller wherein at least one blade in a set of blades on a hub of said impeller is oriented with respect to the tilted plane rotated clockwise or counter clockwise in an axis perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of said impeller. At least one blade in a set of blades of the multi-set impeller may have the same or different sizes or the same or different tilted plane angle compared to at least one blade of the adjacent set or the blade of one set may have the same or different angle as viewed from the second end of the impeller from a reference plane along the longitudinal axis of the impeller compared to the angle of at least one blade of the adjacent set. The invention also includes: blade arrangement for multi-set impeller, inner hub length variations, and hub shapes for better efficiency and utility.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 2010Date of Patent: July 8, 2014Inventor: Mike Richard John Smith

Publication number: 20020175950Abstract: A message sequencing mechanism adds text in a display area based on relational importance. Each message is coded with an identification. The message is added to the display area based on previous identifications. The messages are categorized and sorted first by identification and then by chronology. Messages may be displayed in ascending or descending order with respect to both the identification and the time order of the messages. If the identification dictates that the message is to be added between two existing entries, a space for the new message is made between related entries in the display area, and the new message is added. Messages may also include a sub identification for more defined relationships. Furthermore, a message may be text or other media, such as sound, image, or video. The field may also be automatically scrolled to display the most recent message in association with related messages.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 24, 2001Publication date: November 28, 2002Applicant: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: David Paul Kuiken, Richard John Smith

Patent number: 6015155Abstract: A motor vehicle suspension system includes rear suspension units to adjust ride height between sprung and unsprung parts of the vehicle, control means for monitoring and maintaining ride height at a particular setting and wheel speed monitoring means for monitoring wheel speeds. The control means provides a corrective up height change signal in the event of an unrequested height change and there existed before the unrequested height change a wheel speed signal indicative of vehicle movement. The corrective height change signal may be applied to each suspension unit or the control means may monitor abnormal vehicle activity and provide the corrective height change signal to the appropriate suspension unit. One example of abnormal vehicle activity is when the wheel speeds differ significantly, the control means responding to provide the corrective height change signal to the suspensions unit on the side of the vehicle with the highest wheel speed.Type: GrantFiled: May 27, 1997Date of Patent: January 18, 2000Assignee: Rover Group LimitedInventors: Graham Robert Brookes, David Andrew Clare, Phillip James Green, Richard John Smith, Richard Graham Woodhouse
