  • Patent number: 5929631
Abstract: A sensing method continuously scans an array of sensing elements and determines positions by converting array peak amplitude information to a time based function. An array of magneto resistive elements responds to a relatively moving magnetic field. The process of scanning the magneto resistive elements is independent of the relatively moving magnetic field. Instead of using only one voltage source to power both the driving logic circuitry and the sensing element array, a separate voltage source for powering the sensing element array is used in conjunction with the solid switch array, thus excluding unwanted noise that originates in the driving logic circuitry.

  • Patent number: 5928357
Abstract: The pipeline architecture minimizes delays incurred during execution of branch instructions. While a first instruction is executing, a second instruction is fetched and is ready for execution at the beginning of the next clock cycle. Control logic examines the fetched instruction during the first clock cycle to determine whether the instruction is a branch instruction which may indicate that the address of the next instruction is not the next sequential address. Flags which indicate the state of the system are examined to determine if the address of the instruction is the next sequential address or the address indicated in the branch instruction. As this is performed during the fetch clock cycle of the branch instruction, during execution of the branch instruction, the instruction at the address selected is fetched and is ready for execution without delay.

  • Patent number: 5917375
Abstract: A low distortion amplifier circuit employing a main amplifier and a correction amplifier in a feed-forward loop, is particularly adapted for amplifying multi-tone signals. The main amplifier produces fundamental frequency power along with undesirable distortion products. The correction amplifier provides correction signals at the distortion product frequencies to cancel the distortion products of the main amplifier. In addition, the correction amplifier produces fundamental frequency power which is combined with the fundamental frequency power of the main amplifier, thereby increasing the amplifier circuit output power.

  • Patent number: 5889704
Abstract: A semiconductor EEPROM memory cell having a control circuit and an internal memory device for providing high speed electronic data storage (i.e. writing binary 1 and 0 functionality) in a relatively small physical area. In general, internal memory device has a floating gate, and a source, a drain and a gate coupled to the control circuit. In operation, the control circuit provides electrical signals to the source, drain and gate to control the writing of electrical data to and reading of electrical data from the internal memory device. When writing data to the memory device the control circuit provides electrical signals to the source, drain and gate to initiate electron tunneling between the floating gate and drain, wherein the electron tunneling ultimately produces a conductive or nonconductive state representing the data stored by the internal memory device.

  • Patent number: 5885646
Abstract: A process for preparing nut spreads having a sugar level of from about 15 to about 50% and especially flavored nut spreads having such relatively high levels of sugar. A substantially homogeneous blend is prepared from a fluid suspension consisting essentially of an intimate mixture of sugar, liquid oil and lecithin as a surfactant to improve the fluidity of the suspension, a nut solids-containing mixture and a flavorant that is preferably added to the fluid suspension. The resulting flavored nut spreads are more fluid and softer than products made without using the fluid suspension.

  • Patent number: 5885645
Abstract: Nut spreads, especially peanut butters, having a relatively low viscosity of about 2000 centipoise or less that have significantly reduced stickiness and increased nut flavor intensity. These nut spreads are obtained by milling a mixture of nut solids, oil, particulate water-soluble solids such as sugar and salt, optionally but preferably nut butter stabilizer and emulsifier, such that the water soluble solids have a mean particle size of about 20 microns or less to reduce grittiness. This milled mixture is combined with a nut paste prepared without excessively reducing the particle size of the nut solids.

  • Patent number: 5872460
Abstract: The firing circuit of an inflatable restraint system is tested to verify operation of two FETs in series with a squib which are used to apply current to the squib. For the test the squib is biased to an intermediate voltage and each FET is turned on alone to apply battery or ground voltage to the squib. High and low voltage detectors sense the voltage excursion past respective thresholds to verify FET operation. A current detector for each FET senses a short when its FET is conducting, and a logic circuit immediately turns off the FET to result in a very brief FET on time. In addition, the voltage detectors may be used to detect shorts prior to FET testing and also to turn off or hold off the FETs when a high or low voltage is detected upon FET testing.

  • Patent number: 5863869
Abstract: Superconducting transition metal oxide films are provided which exhibit very high onsets of superconductivity and superconductivity at temperatures in excess of 40.degree. K. These films are produced by vapor deposition processes using pure metal sources for the metals in the superconducting compositions, where the metals include multi-valent nonmagnetic transition metals, rare earth elements and/or rare earth-like elements and alkaline earth elements. The substrate is exposed to oxygen during vapor deposition, and, after formation of the film, there is at least one annealing step in an oxygen ambient and slow cooling over several hours to room temperature. The substrates chosen are not critical as long as they are not adversely reactive with the superconducting oxide film. Transition metals include Cu, Ni, Ti and V, while the rare earth-like elements include Y, Sc and La. The alkaline earth elements include Ca, Ba and Sr.

  • Patent number: 5855534
Abstract: A control system and method is provided for controlling shifting of a vehicular powertrain system (10) including an internal combustion engine (12) drivingly coupled to a mechanical change-gear transmission (14) having a transmission output shaft (22) drivingly coupled to vehicular drive wheels (26) and having a driveline retarder (52) associated therewith. To prevent undesirable vehicle acceleration during shift transients occurring when the vehicle is traveling down a grade, input signals indicative of engine torque (TORQUE.sub.E) and vehicle acceleration (dOS/dt) are sensed and, if engine torque is negative (TORQUE.sub.E <REF.sub.1) and vehicle acceleration is positive (dOS/dt>REF.sub.2), the retarder is caused to apply an increased level of retarding torque to the vehicle drive wheels.
