Patent number: 6042266Abstract: A disposable probe cover for an electronic tympanic ("ear") thermometer is made of closed-cell foam that is laminated with a sheet of high density polyethylene plastic film substantially transparent to infrared radiant energy. The probe cover is hollow, defining a central passageway that accepts an oversized probe and can potentially accommodate a variety of different probe configurations. The foam construction allows the probe cover to stretch over the oversized probe--retaining the probe cover on the probe during use. The foam construction also allows the probe cover to deform when inserted into a patient's ear--sealing the patient's ear canal to prevent external heat and light from affecting the measurement, and providing a high degree of cushioning and comfort not available in any prior disposable probe cover design. The film laminate and foam provide a barrier that is impervious to germs, fluids and other secretions--further reducing the already low risk of cross-contamination.Type: GrantFiled: March 30, 1998Date of Patent: March 28, 2000Assignee: TruTek, Inc.Inventors: Edward P. Patent number: 5539265Abstract: An alternator rotor assembly comprises two "claw pole" pole pieces and a field coil assembly mounted between the pole pieces for rotation therewith. The field coil assembly comprises a bobbin and a coil of wire wound around the body of the bobbin. The bobbin further comprises two walls extending radially away from the center of the bobbin, between which the coil wire is wound. Projecting from the walls are flaps which extend radially outward. The flaps are designed to be bent over by the pole fingers as the rotor assembly is assembled. When so bent over, the flaps help retain the coil wire on the bobbin and help prevent short-circuiting of the coil wire to the inner radius defined by the pole fingers. The ends of the flaps have notches. In one embodiment of the invention, the notches are adapted to allow insertion of the ends of the pole fingers. The notches in the flaps help assure alignment of the flaps and the pole fingers as assembly is begun.Type: GrantFiled: October 11, 1994Date of Patent: July 23, 1996Assignee: Ford Motor CompanyInventors: Richard K. Patent number: 4517842Abstract: A fluid pressure transducer of the null balance type in which a fluid whose pressure is being sensed acts against one face of a diaphragm and a balancing control fluid acts against the opposite face. Control fluid pressure is uniformly distributed against the control face of the diaphragm by a porous element, preferably made of a sintered material. Movement or displacement of the diaphragm opens a sensing element and may be controlled by use of a similar pressure distributing porous element placed on the sensing side. The volume defined between the two porous elements limits maximum diaphragm travel and displacement. Transducers made according to the invention have high sensitivity. The transducers are particularly well adapted for measurement of pore pressure in earth fills or natural geological environments.Type: GrantFiled: November 2, 1982Date of Patent: May 21, 1985Assignee: Slope Indicator Co.Inventors: James R.
