  • Patent number: 6187870
Abstract: Disclosed is a process for the production of low molecular weight grafted polyolefins in which a molten polyolefin is grafted by reactive processing in a screw extruder at an elevated pressure. The molten polyolefin has a low viscosity and flows easily around the screw, thus the pressure is maintained in the screw extruder apparatus by the use of a pressure control device at the exit end of the extruder.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 16, 1993
Date of Patent: February 13, 2001
    Assignee: Eastman Chemical Company
Inventors: Richard K. Stuart, Jr., Randal R. Ford
  • Patent number: 5401811
Abstract: Disclosed is a process for the solid state oxidation of particulate polyethylene. This oxidation process entails continuously introducing a free radical initiator, an oxygen containing gas, and particulate polyethylene into a reactor into an agitated bed that is filled with a majority of a particulate oxidized polyethylene that acts as seed. This process dramatically reduces the residence time of the oxidation of particulate polyethylene by introducing a minor amount of fresh, unoxidized particulate polyethylene into a bed of particulate oxidized polyethylene.

  • Patent number: 5021257
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a hot-melt adhesive containing at least one propylene/1-hexane copolymer. The adhesive contains an amount of a low viscosity, substantially crystalline wax, having a melting point of about 90.degree. C. to about 125.degree. C., sufficient to improve the elastic delamination resistance of the adhesive. The adhesive are particularly useful in disposable diaper construction.

  • Patent number: 4886853
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a hot-melt adhesive containing at least one propylene/1-hexene copolymer. The adhesive contains an amount of a low viscosity, substantially crystalline wax, having a melting point of about 90.degree. C. to about 125.degree. C., sufficient to improve the elastic delamination resistance of the adhesive. The adhesives are particularly useful in disposible diaper construction.
