  • Patent number: 7667597
Abstract: A seal device includes a locking member with a magnetically permeable material portion, and structure that can receive the locking member. The structure supports a magnetic field generator and detector at locations spaced from each other and from a region that is occupied by the portion of the locking member when the locking member is received by the structure. The structure defines a main flux path as a loop having a first portion, a second portion and a remainder that are mutually exclusive, and that collectively define the entirety of the flux path. The first and second portions are respectively within the magnetic field generator and the region, and most of the remainder extends through magnetically permeable material of the structure. The detector is located where the magnetic field has different characteristics when the portion of the locking member is respectively present in and absent from the region.

  • Patent number: 5459607
Abstract: A synchronous optical digital transmission system comprises a local interface unit having a phase locked loop circuit that senses and adjusts the phase of the clock signals arriving from the remote unit to match the phase of the principal or local clock so that arriving data bit streams can be directly applied to the local system for further processing. The system is also designed to transmit and receive high speed and low speed data over a single fiber operating in a diplex mode without adverse crosstalk effects by employing non-standard line coding techniques.

  • Patent number: 4940945
Abstract: An interface circuit for use in a portable apparatus for measuring the electrochemical characteristics of a sample is disclosed. A disposable cartridge, including a plurality of interconnected flow chambers, houses a printed circuit board substrate upon which reference and indicating electrodes are formed. The electrodes are employed in the presence of chemical reagents to aid in the electrochemical determination of a sample undergoing analysis. Such a system provides a high source impedance signal. Interface circuitry is provided between the electrodes and measuring electronics which causes a controllable current loop to be formed through the physical contacts points between the electrodes and the measuring electronics so that low ohmic contact is established. The control circuitry for the current loop is isolated from the measuring circuitry so that measurements taken are not influenced by the current loop formation.

  • Patent number: 4929426

A disposable cartridge, including a plurality of interconnected flow chambers, houses a printed circuit board substrate upon which reference and indicating electrodes are formed. The electrodes are employed in the presence of chemical reagents to aid in the electrochemical determination of a sample undergoing analysis. A thermal sensing element is in close proximity to the electrodes to permit the correction of the measurement for variations in temperature. After a pH value has been determined, the used cartridge can be mechanically ejected thus eliminating user exposure to the blood sample being measured. In this way, the pH of a blood sample can be determined quickly, effectively, inexpensively and with a minimum amount of sample and reagent preparation.
