  • Patent number: 7182682
Abstract: An apparatus for making a surface treating article, and in one embodment for making a plurality of surface treating articles. The apparatus includes an attaching means for attaching a fastener to a surface treating web and a cutting means for cutting the web around the fastener to provide a surface treating article. In one embodiment, a sensor, such as a machine vision system, senses a position of the fastener on the web, with this sensed position being used to direct operation of the cutting means.

  • Patent number: 5173693
Abstract: Two fragments from a single maximal length sequence of length 2.sup.(x/2) -1 are interleaved to produce a new sequence of bits. The lengths of the fragments are such that they have no common factors. Each x-tuple of successive bits of the new sequence of bits uniquely defines the absolute position of that x-tuple in the sequence of bits, which position may be obtained from the relative position in the fragments of two y-tuples making up the x-tuple.

  • Patent number: 4893438
Abstract: A concatenation of circular abrasive discs each having a layer of abrasive material on a first surface, and means on a second surface for releasably attaching said discs to a drive member. The discs are attached to two adjacent discs at opposite edges by two narrow tabs along each edge spaced by at least 0.32 centimeter (1/8 inch) along the edge and generally equally spaced on opposite sides of a center line extending between the centers of the attached discs. Also the discs are separated between the tabs and the tabs are folded to position abrasive discs in a stack within a container with each abrasive disc in the stack having its layer of abrasive against the layer of abrasive of one adjacent disc, and its means for attaching adjacent the means for attaching of the other adjacent disc.

  • Patent number: 4698692
Abstract: A method and apparatus for generating a beam of radiation in which a beam of coherent radiation (2) is fed to a pair of A/O modulators (3,4). The beam is modulated by the modulator (4) in response to a chopped control function which chops between two levels, one of the levels comprising a reference level (V.sub.low). The radiation beam is sampled at times corresponding to the application of the reference level control function to the modulator (4) and a feedback signal corresponding to the sampled power is fed to a comparator (12) where it is compared with a reference voltage (V.sub.ref). The resultant error signal is applied to the modulator (3) so as to maintain at a substantially constant level the power of the sampled radiation when the chopped control function is at the reference level.

  • Patent number: 4126061
Abstract: A signal failure circuit for incorporation in a control circuit of vehicle automatic transmission system of the type having a generator which produces a fluctuating signal, comprises an interval timer including a comparator and a capacitor, the latter being charged by means of a charging circuit and discharged by means of a transistor which is rendered conductive by pulses of a pulse train derived from said fluctuating signal. When said pulses cease the comparator provides an output to a monostable circuit which thereby switches to its unstable state to activate safety circuits associated with the transmission system. The monostable circuit will remain in its unstable state for a predetermined time after the return of the pulses of the pulse train. The charging circuit of the capacitor is conveniently controlled by a further transistor the conduction of which is dependent upon the output voltage of an a.c.-d.c. converter which also receives said train of pulses.
