  • Publication number: 20100270406
Abstract: A hand held rotary grater for grating foodstuffs and the like in which a housing having a handle encircles a grater barrel having a crank for rotating the grater barrel within the housing. The grater includes a lever with a cap at one end which is in registry with a hopper in the housing for holding the foodstuff against the grater barrel. The lever is rotatable about a pin mounted in the housing so as to create a mechanical advantage for the user in order that pressure on the lever is increased at the cap for applying pressure to the foodstuff against the grater barrel. Furthermore, the abrading elements operable in one direction are of a different size and configuration than those in the opposite direction to thereby create different size particulate during the abrading process.

  • Publication number: 20100145342
Abstract: A disposable acetabular reamer having a cutter blade (16) molded into the surface of a support (11). The cutter blade is formed of a single flat sheet of metallic material having a series of teeth (24) formed thereon which protrude above the surface of the support such that when the acetabular reamer is rotated, the teeth contact and reduce the surface of a boney socket. The invention includes a novel method of forming the reamer which includes shaping the cutter blade once teeth are formed therein and integrating the cutter blade into the support coincident with the shaping process. The assembled unit is so economical that it may be discarded after use.

  • Publication number: 20090129873
Abstract: A metallic disk (10) for use with a powered hand tool to remove measured small amounts of material from the surface of a workpiece to smooth the surface thereof. Each disk (10) being formed with an array of strategically placed abrader elements (14) in which each such abrader element (14) is formed with a series of projections (38) in the nature of teeth extending inwardly from an inner wall, defining an opening, toward the edge of the abrader element (14), and being raised above the surface of the disk to engage the surface of the workpiece.

  • Publication number: 20080242204
Abstract: A multi-tasking disk which in one form is used primarily with a powered hand tool to remove measured amounts of material from the surface of a work piece, and, in another form, serving as a buffing tool for removing minute amounts of skin from feet, elbows and the like on a human, or removal of like minute amounts from vegetables. Each disk is formed with an array of either abrading or buffing elements in which each element involves a series of projections having sharpened edges raised above the surface of the disk to accomplish removal of material from the surface upon which it is engaged.

  • Patent number: 6168600
Abstract: The present invention is a backing plate for an acetabular reamer assembly that allows for the attachment of a reamer driver. The acetabular reamer assembly comprises a cutting cup and backing plate, the cutting cup having an external surface with cutting teeth formed therein and having an internal surface, the cutting cup terminating in a peripheral edge. The rigid backing plate has a planar surface which terminates in an outer circumferential edge, the outer circumferential edge being coupled to the peripheral bottom edge of the cutting cup, the rigid plate also having an internal edge profile. The internal edge profile of the rigid backing plate has at least two finger elements protruding from the outer circumferential edge thereof towards a central vertical axis drawn perpendicular to the planar surface of the plate. Further, the finger elements of the backing plate form a holding opening for a reamer driver.

  • Patent number: 5981895
Abstract: A method is shown for manufacturing a bone saw blades from a metal blanks by using an electric discharge machining process. Plural stacks of metal blanks are formed and loaded into a jig where the stacks are secured in an angular position. The stacks of metal blanks are subjected to an electric discharge machining process whereby teeth are machined into the peripheral edges of the metal blanks. The positions of the stacks are switched and the electric discharge machining process is repeated.

  • Patent number: 5302234
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for manufacturing a sheet metal tool that is not planar, and the tools made from the method. A sheet metal blank has a predetermined design of etching resistant material applied to one surface to define exposed areas separated by resist areas. A layer of etching resistant material is also applied to a second surface of the metal blank which overlies at least the exposed areas on the first surface of the metal blank. The exposed areas on the first surface are then subjected to etchant applied from the first surface of the metal blank through the exposed areas to form a tooth shape with a cutting edge. The formed cutting edge terminates in a sharpened surface in the second surface, protected by the layer of the etching resistant material on the second surface of the metal blank.

  • Patent number: 5100506
Abstract: A method is shown for manufacturing a sheet metal tool from a metal blank in which a predetermined pattern of etching resistant material is applied to the back surface of the metal blank to define exposed areas separated by resist areas. A layer of etching resistant material is also applied to the front surface of the metal blank which overlies at least the exposed areas on the back surface of the metal blank. The exposed areas on the back surface are then subjected to etching treatment through the exposed areas to form a tooth shape with a cutting edge. The etching treatment is applied solely from the back surface of the metal blank, whereby the cutting edge is so formed terminate in sharpened surfaces in the plane of the front surface, protected by the layer of the etching resistant material on the front surface of the metal blank.

  • Patent number: 4006681
Abstract: An endless flexible print belt or character support for a printing apparatus which includes a writing medium and a striking arrangement for applying mechanical strike pulses to the writing medium, with the print belt or character support being actuated or driven so as to advance with respect to the writing medium. According to the present invention, the print belt or character support has a plurality of elongated relatively hard type bearing segments located in a predetermined side by side relationship and in close proximity to adjacent segments, with the axis of the segments being parallel. A series of reinforcing cords extend laterally across and engage the segments to provide reinforcement therefor. An elastic bonding or encapsulating material is disposed between the segments and around the cords to lock the type bearing segments in the predetermined position.

  • Patent number: 4006680
Abstract: A type carrier belt formed into an endless loop comprising at least one elastomeric band having a trapezoidal cross-section and a plurality of interchangeable type segments snap-fitted onto the band in a side-by-side manner. Each of the segments has a flat back surface forming the radially inner surface of the belt loop, tapered leading and trailing edge portions adapted to enable said belt loop to be rotatably driven, and an indicia-bearing outer peripheral portion. The outer portion includes at least two raised pedestal portions each having an outer surface parallel to the back surface and adapted to position an indicia thereon and a dove tail-shaped slot disposed between the pedestal portions for receivably retaining the band therein. The indicia may be adapted to form alpha-numeric characters or to act as timing marks or both types may be employed on the different pedestals if desired.
