    Abstract: A reciprocating cutting blade includes a body portion having an top surface, a bottom surface, a longitudinal axis, a first working portion extending at an angle to the longitudinal axis and defining a first cutting surface, a second working portion extending at an angle to the longitudinal axis and defining a second cutting surface. A laser-hardened region extends along at least part of one of the first and second working portions, and preferably along at least part of both of the first and second working portions. The working portions can be serrated to include alternating teeth and roots. The teeth can be laser hardened more than the roots.

    Abstract: A rotary lawn mower blade with improved combined mulching and shredding capability includes an outboard section having a leading cutting edge and a trailing edge. The trailing edge of the outboard section includes a plurality of teeth. The blade also includes a transition section having a leading cutting edge that is at least partially offset relative to the leading cutting edge of the outboard section. The transition section further includes a trailing edge having a partial tooth. Preferably, the plurality of teeth on the outboard section are twisted in either an inboard or an outboard direction. Additionally, the partial tooth can be twisted in an inboard direction. The blade also preferably includes a central mounting portion and an inboard section between the central mounting portion and the transition section. The inboard section also includes a leading cutting edge and a trailing edge.

    Abstract: A rotary cutting blade including an elongated body made of steel and having opposite ends, a leading edge extending from each opposite end, an upper surface, a lower surface and a cutting surface extending between the upper and lower surfaces along a portion of the leading edge, and a laser hardened portion extending from an opposite end of the body along the lower surface and the leading edge, the laser hardened portion having a thickness extending toward the upper surface and to the cutting edge.
