  • Patent number: 8787819
Abstract: The present invention helps generate connected communities of students and educators through access to an increased pool of granular learning resources that benefit from standardization of formats for creating and utilizing individual discussions on individual topics. The present invention also circumvents the complexity of existing repository systems by creating a standard platform format. Because this format is de facto implemented for any educator using the platform, standardized question types (e.g., discussion types or topic types) become functionally interchangeable notwithstanding any particular individuals utilizing the invention. The interchangeability of individual topics allows for creation of a global “topic library,” which may be made available to any educator using the system.

  • Patent number: 8687949
Abstract: Flexibility with respect to access and enjoyment of time shifted content in a content distribution network is provided, especially with regard to content not present on a DVR. A DVR accesses a network storage device over a network for particular portions of content not available on the DVR and the network storage device provides those missing portions. The user may then rewind and playback not only already locally stored content but also that content provided by the storage device. Content can be provided through faster-than-real-time transmissions such that the content is made available to the DVR prior to it being needed for rewind functionality or playback.

  • Patent number: 8636710
Abstract: An absorbent article includes a fit system having fasteners and friction elements. The fasteners are located in the front waist area and the back waist area and are adapted to fasten the article about the waist of a wearer to define a waist opening, a pair of leg openings, and a pair of overlap regions. The friction elements are located in the overlap regions and are adapted to provide friction between the front waist area and the back waist area in the overlap regions. The friction elements have an upper portion oriented towards the waist opening and a lower portion oriented towards the leg opening. The upper portion and the lower portion have different concentrations of surface treatment, thicknesses, and/or surface areas.

  • Publication number: 20130298041
Abstract: The present system allows for online collaborative interaction(s) of various engagement types, without the need for all collaborators to necessarily be registered to or using an identical collaboration application. An interface for engaging in a collaborative environment may allow for identical functionality or a reduced set of functionality that ensures the ability to engage in fundamental online collaborative activities related to the environment. The shared collaborative environment may be accessed from a variety of different computing devices, including various mobile devices. The entire shared collaborative environment may also be embedded an a variety of other platforms and applications that benefit from the added functionality and benefits that the invention provides.

  • Publication number: 20130282419
Abstract: A computer-implemented method and system monitors progress of a participant in a program of development. At least one development goal is established for the participant, and a corresponding record created in a database and associated with a participant record. At least one objective is established, recorded and associated with the development goal record. At least one activity is selected, contributing to achievement of the development goal. A roster is created, in which the participant is scheduled to participate in the selected activity under supervision of at least one supervisor. Upon completion of a rostered activity, the system presents the supervisor with a reporting interface configured for entry of participant progress information with respect to achievement of the objective and the development goal. The supervisor enters progress information relating to the objective and/or the development goal, and the system stores this information in the database in association with the participant record.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a light beacon. The light beacon comprises a casing and a plurality of light units. Each light unit is disposed along a periphery of the casing. Each light unit comprises a back reflector, two parallel side reflectors and at least one light emitting diode. The back reflector has at least a section defining a parabolic shape. The two parallel side reflectors face each other on opposite sides of the back reflector. The at least one light emitting diode (LED) is positioned about a focal point of the section defining a parabolic shape of the back reflector. The position of the at least one LED with respect to the back reflector determines an angle of projected light beam by the light unit.
