Publication number: 20120040195Abstract: The present invention provides solvent- and water-based primer compositions that include at least one carboxylated polyolefin that has been modified with one or more polyfunctional alcohols. The carboxylated polyolefins are obtained by the reaction of polyolefins with at least one of unsaturated carboxylic esters, unsaturated carboxylic acids, unsaturated carboxylic anhydrides, acrylic monomers, and mixtures thereof. The carboxylated polyolefins are then further modified by reaction with one or more polyfunctional alcohols. These polyfunctional alcohol-modified polyolefins may also contain pendant carboxyl groups, which have the propensity to form hydrophilic salts with amines or inorganic bases, thereby rendering the polyfunctional alcohol-modified polyolefins water-dispersible. These primer compositions are useful for significantly improving the adhesion of paints, adhesives, and inks to various plastic and metal substrates.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 20, 2011Publication date: February 16, 2012Applicant: EASTMAN CHEMICAL COMPANYInventors: Kevin Alan Williams, Robert Lee Eagan, Lisa Kay Templeton, Richard Leon McConnell

Patent number: 7505609Abstract: Methods for using training images to define correlation strength surfaces about reference filters, permitting direct solution of position and orientation using images of a target object with only a few reference filters are disclosed. Correlations of selected reference filters with training images are used to develop expressions describing shapes of respective correlation surfaces at incremental changes relative to an aspect or range used for a filter. Correlations of target images with only a few reference filters may then be used to define target orientation and range in many real-world applications. A method for determining target object orientation and/or range based on interpolations, using results of correlations of a target image with composite filters having reduced sensitivities for different orientation axes, or range, is also disclosed. Techniques for using training images to create such composite filters are disclosed, as are extensions of methods to additional dimensions.Type: GrantFiled: September 1, 2005Date of Patent: March 17, 2009Assignee: Advanced Optical Systems, Inc.Inventors: Richard Leon Hartman, Keith Bryan Farr, Michael Kevin Balch

Patent number: 7185845Abstract: A wide field-of-view optical system that may be used in determining a direction to a source of light, or for determine steering corrections to direct a vehicle toward a target, is disclosed. The optical system, which may be used as a seeker in a missile or other weapon, comprises a spherical ball lens truncated to provide one or more facets on which detectors may be mounted to measure relative intensities as a blur spot image of a source of light, which may be a reflection from a laser designated target, moves across the detectors, which may be individual elements in a quadrant detector. Narrow band filters may be used to suppress undesired wavelengths and enhance performance. The innovative design enables implementation of a wide field-of-view seeker with no moving parts. The spherical ball lens may be used directly as an aerodynamic surface without a need for a separate optical dome.Type: GrantFiled: January 18, 2005Date of Patent: March 6, 2007Inventors: Richard Leon Hartman, Randall Wayne Griffin
