  • Patent number: 8756661
Abstract: A dynamic authentication system that makes authentication stronger, while reducing the cost to business and the burden to users. The system includes a service that provides centralized, non-federated, proxied authentication. The system uses a two-pass authentication process that first receives a supposed identity of the user and then determines one or more authentication criteria for proving that supposed identity. When the user attempts to use an online service that relies on the dynamic authentication system for authentication, the service requests the user's identity. The system dynamically determines authentication criteria for the user to prove the provided identity belongs to the user. In the second pass, the service receives a response from the user containing additional authentication information, and forwards the received response to the system for verification. If verification succeeds, the service allows the user to access the requested resources.

  • Patent number: 7890767
Abstract: A public key authentication system and method for use in a computer system having a plurality of users. The system includes a virtual smart card server, storage connected to the virtual smart card server, and a virtual smart card agent connected to the virtual smart card server. The storage includes a plurality of virtual smart cards, wherein each virtual smart card is associated with a user and wherein each smart card includes a private key. The virtual smart card agent authenticates the user and accesses the authenticated user's virtual smart card to obtain the user's private key.

  • Patent number: 7840812
Abstract: A synchronization device checks the revocation status of a digital certificate used by a portable computing device, such as a personal digital assistant or mobile phone. The synchronization device typically sends the revocation status to the portable device during a periodic synchronization operation. Revocation status checking can occur using minimal processing, memory or network access resources of the portable device. In some embodiments, the synchronization device is a desktop personal computer, or a server within a mobile communication network. In other embodiments, the portable device uses a certificate and sends the certificate to the synchronization device during a subsequent synchronization operation. In yet other embodiments, the synchronization device checks the status of a certificate, generates a summary for the certificate and transmits the summary to the portable device prior to its use of the certificate.

  • Publication number: 20070011355
Abstract: Within one embodiment of the present invention, the rules for transcoding web content are abstracted from the transcoding functionality of a transcoding proxy server. Specifically, within the transcoding proxy server, the functions that perform the transcoding of web content for a device having limited display capabilities is completely separate and distinct from the transcoding rules, e.g., extensible transcoder annotation (XTA), that provide the order, manner, and/or what web content should be transcoded for the requesting device. Therefore, when the transcoding proxy server receives a web page request from a device, its transcoding software accesses an XTA file to find a rule set that pertains to the web page request. Upon finding a corresponding XTA rule set, the transcoding proxy server follows the instructions of the rule set in order to transcode the requested web page for the device having limited display capabilities.
