Publication number: 20240242823Abstract: A healthcare system determines a status of a medical device after determining that a first user is authorized to access the medical device. A user interface is displayed that indicates a determined status of the medical device and medication information for medication to be administered by the medical device to a patient associated with the medical device is received.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 28, 2024Publication date: July 18, 2024Inventors: Richard M. BATCH, Timothy W. VANDERVEEN

Publication number: 20240185976Abstract: A system and method for managing medication orders, including changes to those orders, is described. A server receives, from an infusion device, an indication that an infusion was initiated at the infusion device and an identification for the infusion, and determines that the infusion is not associated with an electronic medical record (EMR) associated with a patient. The server generates a new order identifier for the infusion and associates the new order identifier for the infusion with the EMR. While the infusion is being administered to the patient, delivery status messages associated with the infusion are then sent by the infusion device and the server updates the EMR with information from the delivery status messages.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 12, 2024Publication date: June 6, 2024Inventor: Richard M. BATCH

Patent number: 11901057Abstract: A system and method for managing medication orders, including changes to those orders, is described. A server receives medication orders from a pharmacy and communicates those orders to an infusion pump. The infusion pump communicates status messages to the server and the server compares the status messages to the medication orders to determine if the there were any changes to the order, or if a medication was administered absent a medication order. The server assigns a new order identification number to the status message if needed. The system may also reconcile original medication orders with information associated with a new order identification number and stores the information in the eMAR of a patient.Type: GrantFiled: June 11, 2021Date of Patent: February 13, 2024Assignee: CareFusion 303, Inc.Inventor: Richard M. Batch

Patent number: 11590281Abstract: Identification information for a patient and a user responsible for administering a medication are received from a controller associated with an infusion device. When a medication is scanned and information from the scan is received the system determines whether the user is authorized to operate the infusion device to administer the medication to the patient. If more than one order is available for the patient, pending medication orders for the patient are determined and presented on the controller for selection by the user before the administration. When a selected order is confirmed to be for the patient, and the user is authorized, the controller programs the infusion device to administer the medication according to the selected order.Type: GrantFiled: May 22, 2020Date of Patent: February 28, 2023Assignee: CareFusion 303, Inc.Inventors: Richard M. Batch, Timothy W. Vanderveen

Patent number: 10668211Abstract: Pending medication orders are presented on the controller of an infusion pump to which a patient has been identified. All pending medication orders are displayed on the screen of the controller and any may be selected by the clinician. Selecting a pending order at the controller that involves an infusion to the patient also results in automatic programming of the infusion pump in accordance with that order. Selection of an oral medication at the controller results, as does selection of any other order, in notification to the healthcare facility server that the order is being administered. Such notification resolves open controlled item transactions as well as provides information that may be relevant to a patient's EMAR. Selection of a pending order may occur manually or automatically through identification of a medication.Type: GrantFiled: May 25, 2018Date of Patent: June 2, 2020Assignee: CareFusion 303, Inc.Inventors: Richard M. Batch, Timothy W. Vanderveen
